Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but American Honda has donated an MDX to a high school team competing in the DARPA Challenge . The teams in this competition have to create a vehicle that will travel from Los Angeles to Las Vegas the in the shortest amount of time with out any human control.

For info on the competition

They showed the high school team and the MDX this evening on NBC Nightly News. They've installed $180K-200K worth of computers and guidance equipment. None of the kids we old enough to get drivers licenses :D http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4371828/ http://todaysengineer.org/Nov03/darpa.asp

Saw the clip on the news. It took me a bit to figure out that it was an MDX, because they called it a Honda. Should be interesting, plus a lot of good coverage for the Acura.
There is a fellow on the British car show circuit who has heen DeLorean tricked up as a dead ringer for the Back to the Future car. Maybe somebody will do the same with this if it is famous enough.

The results of the attempts of today’s group break down as follows:

Palos Verdes High School and Team Cal Tech partially completed the course before stopping to make mechanical adjustments.

• Team Cajunbot’s mission was aborted due to a minor malfunction by a course transmitter.

• Team CIMAR and Digital Auto Drive (DAD) had unsuccessful attempts to start due to instrumentation problems.

• AI Motorvators, The Golem Group and Team Phantasm passed on their turns but will take them later in the week.

This happened a few months ago on March 13. There was a local team from Cary, NC competing. The next challenge is in October 2005. Not sure if the Acura will be there or not.

Here's the caption from one of the AP pics:
"SciAutonics I, "RASCAL." from Thousands Oaks, Calif. starts the race Saturday, March 13, 2004, near Barstow, Calif. A $1 million race across the Mojave Desert by driverless robots ended Saturday after all 15 entries either broke down or withdrew, a race official said. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, DARPA was sponsoring the Grand Challenge to foster development of autonomous vehicles that could be used in combat. (Photo: AP)"

The farthest anyone went was 7.4 miles. The Acura hit a wall in the starting area.
