After sharing a wonderful evening in the MDX with my significant other, I have the following concerns/recommendations:
1) Whilst having my REAL shift-knob serviced during transit, I found that there are several challenges. First, while I enjoy the luxury of a larger arm-rest, she found it to be a bit of an obstacle in performing her duties. I recommend that the arm-rest be shortened so as not to take up the primary lane of interaction. Secondly, I found myself revving my engine when it was kicked into neutral by her ribs. I recommend that there be a locking device or make it harder to shift out of drive. Or move the shift knob (the car's) farther forward.
2) When the portfolio of services she offered expanded, I found that I could no longer focus on the driving at hand and needed to find a quiet place to pull over. I would recommend some sort of auto-pilot capabilities be added to the driving experience. I'm sure that some interaction with the GPS system could easily make this possible.
When we found a quaint location for complete enjoyment of eachother, she found a few additional challenges in the driver's seat. I for one, found that the speed of the power seats moving into a reclined position was way too slow and would recommend some sort of quick-release mechanism for easier access.
I think I should stop here for a moment and complement the amount of allotted space between the driver's seat and the steering wheel. We had plenty of room to express her enjoyment.
The next morning, finding several minor bruises on her legs led us to make some additional recommendations. This would include a more padded and roomy area between the seat and door as well as the seat and center console. I'm certain that making the center console slightly narrower or retractable would provide the space, while adding a leather padding to the floor (this could be an add-on option from the dealer) would remedy this situation.
Hopefully you have all had the opportunity to experience things in your MDX's as well. I would be interested to know the convenience as well as challenges you've experienced. I think is great feedback for the engineers who have designed a nearly perfect piece of machinery. |

You notice he didn't say wife. Married people don't have relations. Alas, the words of experience... ;)
Ok, I do have a six month old so I guess it's a lie! Do you think Acura will do something like VW did and give Savings Bonds to babies concieved in MDX's? LOL! |

Worm...
Using terms like "the wife" will keep you out of the driver's seat!! Looks like "mytonka" found a new meaning for "Roadside Assistance"! :D:D
|
|
|
|
| Not married? What's that got to do with it? (Thank Gawd I married an "active" woman). Way to go MYTONKA! |
|
|
|
You made my morning....LOL!
But there may be a practicality to this. Did you:
a.) experience "the thud" prior to this event
b.) experience "the thud" after this event
If you find that there may be a corrective benefit to this, please let all of us know. If this is the case, then one of two things will happen, either there will be smiles on a lot of MDX owners' faces :D , or maybe we can get Acura involved to create a bulletin in which John Bruno could fly to all of the dealers in the US and Canada, and correct the problem by attempting to write a deal with a customer in your MDX. Same effect!
The only drawback to the first solution is that you would end up going from "thud" concerns to a much more frequent instance of worn leather seat bolsters! |
|
|
|
| And I was only worried about the leaky mirrors!!! |
|
|
|
| Gives a whole new meaning to "enjoy the ride"!!!!! ;) |

Well, it looks as though I have accomplished my goal. I wanted to provide some light-hearted entertainment to my fellow MDX owners.
I do agree that in order to keep people interested in posting to this sight, we should all use a little humor (ok, I realize I took it to the extreme) in order to keep the enjoyment going!
Hopefully I did not offend anyone, and hopefully, some of the engineers are watching! I would love to get a response to this thread from the Acura designers. |

Getting back to the topic at hand, I see we haven't thoroughly compared the MDX to our old Expedition yet;) |

There was a time that I read these posts for information, now I find myself looking in because of the entertainment value.
Great post -mytonka.
I showed your post to my wife. She said she would road test it down to the Ritz Carlton where it would be a little more comfortable.
You might want to show your post to Acura for future ads. Could be a real incentive for buyers when sales begin to slip. |

Cool!
I do slightly disagree on item #1 though. Because our experiment showed that, the center console, while being an obstacle at times, sort of forced her buttock to a higher position which is actually a more desirable posture, and the shift stick, if handled with care as with all joy sticks, also provided her with an illustion of "more than one of them at the same time"...
We'll double-check your claim of slow reclining of seatback this weekend. Thanks tonka. |

My wife enjoyed your post and it reminded her that we haven't "broken in" our MDX. When we had our Toyota 4Runner, it was great being able to get off (no pun intended) the main road and take a dirt road when she or I had an urge. That's one of the reasons why we traded in our mini-van for the MDX, cause we couldn't be quite as spontaneous as when we had the 4Runner. Another is that it's also alot easier to fold down the second row seats (and use the back) if you needed more room versus the mini-van.
Great post!! |
|

Hey... I just thought of something.. (for those of you with no rythm this might be tough so pay attention). Remember the "first" MDX commercial with the Music that went "dunt...dunt dunt dunt...dunt dunt dunt"..and showed the MDX going down the dirt road? Well.....for those of you that grew up in the 70's / 80's you may remember the words to that song. It was "Keemesobe..jump on it! Jump on it!"
MYTONKA's story now gives me a new slant to that commercial. |
|
|
|
| I guess it won't hurt that the navi can play a little DVD. I mean the soft-core type. |

We have practiced similar activities is several of our previous vehicles (lucky us...).
But we have yet to really "get comfortable" in our MDX, although we have discussed the
logistics of such exercises.
Due to your "in depth" research, some of the inherent hazards have been identified
which will no doubt only increase our own enjoyment.
Thanks for your unselfish adittude in service of helping all of us learn to utilize our
MDX {Multi Dimensional Luxury} in yet another way.
Another words, the challenge is on! |

Hey, here is what I dont get :
with all this cargo space, why did you have to struggle in the driver's seat, not to mention all the bruises? I bet most of Aztec's owners bought that crap-on-wheels for just one purpose only - NOT having to use the front seats! :)
IMHO, that inflated bed should be added as a standard equipment or integrated into some Honeymooner's package along with Protection Package (hey, Tim, how about adding a pack of trojans to the trio?) :) |

If you plan to use your MDX for recreation activity beyond normal SUV usage, it is recommended that you remember the area between the seat and the console can hide all kinds of evidence.
It is probably wise to clean it out on a regular basis. Such services are the responsibility of the owner, and are not included in Acura's TLC. :2: |

Seems to me that those that sent you emails did not have to read the "offensive posts". If they thought that they might be offended based on a descriptive thread title, then they have no business complaining once they open it up and read it. Additionally, isn't that what the ignore button is for? If someone finds something objectionable, all they need to do is put that poster on their ignore list.
That thread seemed pretty harmless to me. IMHO |

In defence to our moderators, they are doing an excellent job maintaining the cleanness of our site. There is so much garbage out there on the internet, and without moderators I don't think we would get far.
But, I agree with most of you, this thread was kind of fun, and since it has "sex" in the title, it can be easily skipped. So, by popular demand, I will be restoring deleted posts. It might take a while, but I'll bring them back.
Again, thanks to all our moderators for keeping a close eye.

So, the question remains: Wouldn't the back seat provide more room and thus be more comfortable? This was certainly true for my wife's old Honda Accord.

I don't understand people that have a choice not to read but want to go a step farther and make the decision for me that I should not read something. If something is offensive on TV or radio, change the channel. If something is offensive to you on the Internet, go to a different web page or different thread.
This is not the workplace, where you are forced to be in the presence of something that offends you and can't just go someplace else.
Basic standards are great, but to let 1 person control what 4500 people can or cannot read is a heck of a lot more offensive than this great thread.
I wish the person who complained is strong enough to stand up and explain why he or she should be making decisions for all of us. |

Now that I've got your attention, I find it very amusing that one single post has generated so much interest and controversy.
And the guy who started this whole thing is "dead"....well, his last post on this forum was nearly one year ago (10-12-01)!!!! Why? Well, he got married and sold his X, so he is not even an owner anymore.
Yet, in spite of this, 42 replies were generated (excluding mine) and a whopping 3579 views were made, making this thread one of the more highly viewed postings on this forum.....in fact, doing a little site search, this thread is the 20th biggest viewed thread in the General Discussions forum for the past year!!
Sex, I guess, still sells.:12: |

octavian ... Are you statistics accurate? I would have bet BIG money that other threads would have generated far more action:
** Fleet price on MDX -- Buy quantity = 1
** Towing by motor home
** Undercoating
** Where do I get my gas
** Full size spare -- Yes or No?
** Do your mirrors weep?
There MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG :16: |

The most replied to threads ever that contained the word MDX are here . Yes it appears the Oil Leak Saga is the winner in that category with 317 replies.

Had the X for six months now
What a car, holy cow
Heard the problems from far and wide
Still can't complain about the ride
No weeping mirror or loud thud
or tapping noise from above
No oil leak or new tranny
or hairy things under my fanny
No gas backsplash experienced here
or poor window washing in the rear
No clicking seats under me
or dents or dings that I can see
No side to side play with my brakes
or navi systems that make mistakes
No condensation in my light
or front cup holder that puts up a fight
No glove box rattle in my dash
or new paint jobs from a crash
No mirror that has fallen apart
or cold engines that won't start
No problems with my Bose
or how the rear AC flows
No roof rack issues here
or seat belt marks to wipe clear
So, with such a perfect ride
What nagging problem do I hide
I blush at the thought I express
But do so knowing I won't impress
I have rode for six months in the MDX
And not one time have I had sex
My wife says she waits for the TSB
Before she can technically please me.
So Acura techs get it done
So I can at last have some fun!
Cheers
