Question about NEW mileage for '04 - Click HERE for Original Thread

Will be purchasing an '04 MDX shortly.

When the vehicles are shipped to the dealer and subsequently prepared for buyer to take possession, what should the approximate mileage be at the point of possession? (Assuming no customer test drives...)

What kind of preparation is required that would put additional miles on the vehicle?

My concern is that it will get prepared and then go for a couple of customer test drives before I get a chance to pick it up.

Any suggestions to ensure this doesn't happen?

Thanks

I just bought my X and asked the dealer the same question. They stated that approx kilometers would be about 25 (as per sales agreement). About 16 kms are reserved for the vehicle testing after production to ensure that all is okay with the vehicle. Then once vehicle is shipped, the dealer has to to their PDI and this calls for their service dept to take it for a ride to ensure that all was well after delivery of the vehicle. I was advised that it could be less but that's about average for my dealer because of their location and proximity of the nearest gas station - I checked and there is no gas station for atleast 3 kms one way.

I picked up my new 2004 Touring X a few weeks ago. The vehicle only had 5 miles on it and I was very happy to see that.

Since then I have averaged anywhere from 17.1 to 20.1 MPG. This is a combination of highway driving during the week and stop and go "city" driving during the weekend.

I am not thrilled with the mileage during the week, but am hopeful it will go up over the next few months. I currently have about 600 miles on the truck and have only filled it with 93 octane fuel.

Hope this helps.

My 04 X had 5 miles on it when I picked it up at the dealership. I have since put almost 3000 miles in a little over a month on it.

My 03 was actually trucked in from a dealer on the west coast to my local dealer. They basically backed it off the semi from the manufacturer and onto another truck to deliever here. Arrived with the white protective film still on it, and only had 3 miles on it. After my test drive it had 8. After they filled the tank and drove around the lot putting on the towing package, I took final delivery with 11 miles.

I currently have 1400 miles, and have hit a low of 9MPG, and a high of 22MPG. The 9 was because for a couple weeks, it went nowhere but to work and back ... that's about a 2 mile round trip. I seem to be holding an average around 18MPG in mixed driving.

My '04 had 11 miles on it and has 390 on it now. I'm getting about 16 right now on my first tank and half.

In my experience, most dealerships won't allow a vehicle that has already been sold to be used for test drives. But to make absolutely certain, make sure your salesman understands that it is unacceptable if anyone else test drives your vehicle and you will not buy it if it has over 5 - 10 miles.

My dealer would only let me sit in an '04 that had be sold, so I only test drove an '03. Why mine had 11 miles I don't know.

I picked up mine, with the plastics still wrapped on the driver seats with 7.8 miles on it.

Shook hands on the sale while someone else was about to put on the dealer plate for a test drive. We promptly told them to gently get out of my car :D

Already put over 200 miles on it in three days :(
