I bought some Maguire's Leather Cleaner & Conditioner for my 04 X. How often do I have to use it? Once every 3 months?

I don't think there is a magic formula. There is too much of a good thing too. Keeping your upholstery clean, vacuumed and cleaning up spills immediately, is just as important.
Also, how much use does your vehicle get, how much interior 'traffic'?
And if you park it outside most of the time, where it gets more UV exposure, is another consideration.
For the average 'Joe' every 2 to 3 months is probably more than sufficient, everything else considered.

In the hot southeast, you better treat a couple times a year, or the hot temps will dry it out quickly and the leather starts cracking.

So if you are like most people and 1. garage your X at home 2. leave it parked outside during the day 3. are fairly careful not to drag too much mud and/or other damaging trash into your X is it still recommended to CLEAN it before CONDITIONING it?

How about CLEANING 1x a year, and CONDITIONING 2x a year? Anyone with an '01 had great success?

What do you mean by 'cleaning'? I would always clean a surface before applying a conditioner.

If you mean vacuuming and using a damp cloth to get off surface dirt, before condtioning, then yes.

I don't think it is necessary to use a special cleaner unless there is some grunge you can't remove by normal means.

Yep. That's what I was getting at. I've heard the distinction made between CONDITIONING and cleaning the leather with a "special" leather cleaner. If folks agree that a leather cleaner isn't necessary unless VERY dirty) then I'll go with only the conditioner. Maybe the cleaner is only needed if you only treat it every other year, or something.

I use Lexol treatment every 2-3 months. I use the Lexol cleaner once or twice a year at the most.

Yup, Dale, that is about what I do, except I use Zaino Cleaner and Zaino Conditioner.

I've used the liquid Meqiuars Leather Cleaner and think its a good product that does what's promised but I've found that the Mequiars disposable Leather Wipes that pop up out of the cannister one at a time are easier to use and do just as good a job and they're less messy. Much quicker too. I think the wipes leave the leather with a nicer sheen and feel.

How do you rate the Zaino conditioner? The application and appearance after app?
octavian
m2, it is glossy upon application. Good absorption. Within an hour or two leaves a satin finish. Great leather smell.

My friend referred me to this site:

just about anything on detailing you want to know will be contained in their forums.

I just bought some Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather Foam Cleaner/Conditioner and used it yesterday on the leather. Very easy to use and works very well. Leaves a very nice shine.

Have a quick question.... if my 3rd row is always down, how often should I condition it?

Probably once a year if you're normal; twice, if you're compulsive.

More important is the vacuuming back there. Unless you have a cargo tray AND a liner, you wouldn't believe how many small bits of crud drop through to the 3rd row seats and floor.

I thought the 3rd row was vinyl or did they change it?
