Strange problem today with the tire pressure system in my 04.
Today was the first cold snowy day this year here in Denver with temps. around 25. After the X was outside for a few hours the tire pressure system showed all 4 tires as low!!! I hand checked my tires after I got home and they all showed 34 pounds which is where I always keep them at. After warming up in our garage the warning lights went back to normal
Could be something for 04 owners to watch for. I'll keep you posted.

Are you saying immediately after you drove it the pressures returned to normal range after reading low and the X was sitting?

I dropped my daughter off at her horse riding club and waited there in the X for her to get done. It was idling for an hour or so when the warning lights turned on 1 at a time?? for all 4 tires
The warning lights stayed on the whole way home , then after parking in my warm garage for a while I turned the ignition and the problem had gone away.
My best guess is the sudden cold temps must be goofing up my system

Opinions appreciated

Cold tire pressure < warm/hot tire pressure.

Your cold pressure (after sitting around) was below the threshhold. When you drove and the tires heated, it was above it.

Check your cold PSI in the morning and inflate appropriately. You are supposed to check and inflate COLD PSI.

My guess based on the info you've provided.

Exactly, after the tires warm up the pressure will go up, check them when they are cold.

Thanks for your input!! I'll give it a try and let you know.

I've seen pressures go from 32 PSI (cold) to 38 after a freeway trip of 60 miles or so. The previous posts are right on - MUST check all pressures when the tire is cold. These systems reall are pretty slick.

And you might want to check with tires cold from being outside, in the garage might be warmer and thus higher pressure than you will get outside.

You will almost always need to add air when winter arrives because of the colder temps to achieve the recommended pressure.

Some may say tires that are a little soft should get better traction in a soft medium such as snow but that is assuming you don't cut all the way to the pavement.

I believe you will want tires at full pressure to cut through the slush and bite into the road surface.

So, pump up the pressure to the recommended level with the tires at ambient cold driving temperature, not garage temp, and not the temp after driving.

This problem is prevalent with other more expensive cars:

This is a common problem with TPMs in cold weather and not isolated to the MDX.

Thank's to all of you with your helpful insight!! I checked my tire pressure again with the temp being about 60 degrees not having driven for about 12 hours. All 4 tires showed about 33 psi.
I've driven in cold dry weather before which did not seem to effect the system, perhaps the snow had something to do with it?? I'll keep everyone updated.
The problem hasn't resurfaced since. Still waiting for our next snow to see what happens.
Otherwise we are very happy with our decision to trade our base 03 for a touring 04. This vehicle is awesome :29:
