Getting ready to wax the X before it gets too cold.

Hi Kseto007:

___Here is a kind of “in a nutshell” description of just one aspect of “Wax” vs. “Polymer”. Standard wax breaks down around 140 – 150 Degrees … Polymers break down at much higher temps. Temps that high are seen on many surfaces of an automobile in mid summer (not mid-winter of course). With that being said, have you ever heard of Zaino?

___Although there is a lot of garbage in the following search, just click on any that pertains to detailing, wash/wax, or Zaino and you should be set.

___Here you go: Zaino …

___Good Luck

Both will do well, but liquid is usually easier. I use Meguiar's Gold Class with a Sears orbital buffer, but most of the board members use a combination of Zaino products.

I concur with "frostyra", Meguiar's is excellent.

After thoroughly washing the car, get a the Mequiar's pre-wax cleaner or equivalent product. Test an area of the vehicle to determine how build up the dirt is. If you get a lot of grim off the the area, then your car needs a complete pre-wax cleaning using the pre-wax cleaner

Make sure you have a big stack of clean rags for this effort.

Once the entire car is cleaned, then use the Meguiars Gold (or equivalent). Again, have a good stack of clean rags and another set of rags that are finer for buffing.

Most folks wash the car and then go straight to the wax. Unfortunately, most cars still have a built of layer of grim that will just get buffed in with the wax if not removed and this will prevent the true protection a polymer can provide as "xcel" has described

I've used both the paste and the liquid. The liquid seems to be easier to work with.

I'm sure there are other post similar, but as a newbie, wanted to post my experiences...

Good luck and "let those Xs shine".

Paste is easier to apply evenly. Do you have a buffer????If you do I don't recommend you using Zaino with a buffer(wastes too much product). Also if you like to use Meg, use Megs DACP. Use it with a buffer and the swirl marks will gradually disappear.

P.S: Tell you what I never did these things before. I got all the info from autopia.org

Liquid. Zaino. 2 years. 28 coats. And counting. 2 coats applied Saturday. Took me about 40 minutes (after washing and "bat out of hell drying (another thread)). Z5....Z2.....Z6. No rubbing, no buffing. Still get the "your X is 2 YEARS OLD???" comment. Verrrrrry satisfying.

Another vote for Meguiar's Gold Paste wax - I use a polishing compound first, then wax. It's work, but a labor of love thing. And it looks goood...

I just did an S100 (carnauba paste) topper on Zaino and it went on like butta.

Of course, it was overcast while I applied it and rained immediately upon completion, so I have no idea how it looks. :(

I have a 3M paste and liquid (same "name" and presumably formulation - just in a different form) that Tommy Leon sent me awhile back. The paste also was easy on/off and I think a bit less messy than the liquid. It was a bit easier to get a thinner and more even coat w/the paste (using a foam applicator) than w/the liquid.

IMO if it's a *good* paste wax, the application and removal should be reasonably easy.

I also use S100 and find it one of the easiest waxes to use and it doesn't mark the black trim. I don't think it lasts as long as some waxes though.

Just my $.02. I used Klasse brand for the first time this fall. The application wasn't too bad. I am now waiting to see what the longevity is with this product. If I can make it through til spring (or beyond), I will be happy.

Where did you get S100??? Some people said you can buy them from a Harley dealer but people searched almost the whole B.C and found non that has it so I assume you bought it from the internet???

Hi Captain.

Lots of motorcycle shops have it, I pick it up at the Coquitlam Harley dealer. It's not cheap but it's a great wax and the easiest wax I've ever used. Regards

did you use the sealer, or just the AIO? I used the AIO about 2 months ago, but didn't have time for the sealer. The car still looks good (when it's not snowing)

Yup!! I think I paid $22 but it goes a long way. I buy a jar a year and it does my cars and motorcycle a few times. I can't say that it's the BEST wax out there but as I said it's very easy to use and won't discolor the black plastic. It's very popular with bikers. Regards.

Hi asn,
I used both. I figured with the usual harsh winter here I wanted the extra protection that the sealer provides. Keep us posted on the longevity of your protection, as will I.
