For my home personal use. Please email to hondacuraworld@aol.com if you've got one that you'd like to sell or swap for accessories :)

Don't need anything extravagant, but I do need something to help me keep up with the work volume. Had one, but it's now in use here at the dealership as I really didn't need it at the time.

I have 4 laptops. Ranging in price from $150 to $1200. They all work fine. 3 Compaqs and 1 HP. I don't have all the specs at my fingertips, but I could provide some information if you are interested.

I'd be interested in the info too - please send me an PM

Tim,

Is there a minimum requirement for the laptop? ( Speed, memory, hard drive )
I have a laptop that I no longer use, just wondering if it fits your needs
hondacuraworld
It needs to be able to get on the internet :)

If interested, I have several units available as well. They are IBM Thinkpad T23 laptops, still sealed in the manufacturer's shipping box with unbroken security tape. Mfg warranty valid through Feb of 2006. They are available for $875 plus shipping (plus 1% if you are paying through Paypal). I am on the east coast so shipping with insurance typically runs about $15 for east coast deliveries, $25 for mid west, and $28 for west coast deliveries using three day shipping.

If interested and would like more detail on the units, just send me an email Ceenit@carolina.rr.com.

I have an IBM A22M that I used for technical school last year I want to sell. I only want $450 for it and I'll split the shipping (not sure of weight). I have to check the exact specs but I believe it's a P3-850, 12" TFT, 15GB HD not sure of the RAM but between 128 and 256. It has Windows 2000 Pro on it and MS Office. I of course, can pre-load other software on it. It has all paperwork, carrying case with shoulder strap, good battery and is in good working order. It does not have a DVD-Rom drive or CDRW burner but does have a CDR drive and floppy.

FWIW, there is a full Java dev environment with Oracle Personal 8i edition too.

For the last couple of weeks, the Parade supplement in the Sunday paper has been advertising a Dell Inspiron 1100 for $799. It is a celeron powered, but 2.3Ghz...looks like a decent buy to me.

I agree....take it from someone who has purchased and sold new and used notebooks for a number of years.....

1) always get something with a warranty

2) note the products that have 1 versus 3 year warranties....the additional warranty coverage is very valuable, and prices to repair out of warranty devices are relatively high. Companies only giving one year warranties are banking on you throwing it away and buying a new one in the second or third year.

3) Celeron is a good offering for those who don't need the higher end performance (not for gamers, number crunchers, or high end graphics)...performance wise Celeron is roughly equivalent to a 9-15 month old Pentium mobile processor (very rough).

4) memory is cheap and easy to add, but try to get no less the 256MB and make sure there is room to add more without having to throw away a module

5) lots of good used buys out there, but again, warranty is important. If no warranty comes with the unit, make sure the price reflects such as it could be a throw away before you think.....I'm not minimizing the good deals available on used products, only the importance of warranty

6)Get the latest OS with the machine (XP)....it can be costly to upgrade later and you will have to worry about adding all the smaller drivers

7) For office automation (MS office products) the latest version is not necessary and the majority of users can do everything with versions one or two revisions back (eg, running Office 97 or Office 2000 on Windows XP (except for those who use MS Access Database).

Just my 2 cents, as notebooks are popular items this time of year.

Best Buy has been offering some good computer deals lately. I just picked up a Centrino based WXGA notebook with free printer for $900 after rebates. Just be sure you want what you are purchasing because unlike Circuit City, BB has restocking fees for non-defective merchandise.

I really prefer buying big ticket items at Circuit City also based on their return policy.

I'm using an Apple iBook for viewing this websiste right now. After all the usual hassles with PC's I just wouldn't use anything other than an Apple with OS X as an operating system. My next door neighbor is a professor of computer science and recently bought an Apple. He is stunned by how much easier it is to use and how much more stable and crash proof than anything Microsoft has produced. I don't want to sell this one but if I were you, I'd hold out for an iBook as a laptop.

Actually My 4 computers, 2 desktop and 2 laptops are running on XP pro and to this date none have had issues or have" crashed" or gotten a BSOD.

Running WIN2K Workstation and IIS web server for over 3 years now and no problems. Very stable, rare hardware incompatibility issues and easy to use (familiar interface).
