Since I keep getting these MFing pop up ads and redirects from Internet Explorer, I took a leap of faith and went with Mozilla. For now, it seems quicker and no pop up ads or other garbage.
Anyone else use it? I would just like to hear feedback about it. |

I used Netscape exclusively until version 4.7 ... then they went AOL. I gave the first versions of 6.0 a try, but it was a slow dog, and I didn't like the AOL feel about it. Gave up and switched to IE ... been here ever since.
I've used Mozilla off and on, and it's made good strides at getting back to the old feel of Netscape ... and I've considered switching back. I also have Opera on the computers and like it as well ... it's vveerryy fast. Only problem I have with it is limited java functionality.
Personally, I think if we could take all the browsers and put them in a pot and stir them up, we'd end up with a killer app. |

| When I added the Google tool bar on my IE browser, I found it to have one of the most effective pop-up supressors around. |

| I've found the Yahoo toolbar pop-up blocker to be much better. It blocks all the advertising pop-ups but allows others that aren't - like spell check here. And it lets you make a list of address to always allow pop-ups from. |

Actually, I have both tool bars! I am not sure which is working best for me, but I think either works better than any stand-alones. I also tried a different browser at one point called Avant.
Found it too buggy to mess with though, but it had a good form filler that was a stand-alone and not invasive like Gator. But the AutoFill on Google works fine also. |

I run Avant browser (IE6 Shell app) and a small but great app called Zeropop. I never see pop-ups unless I add them to my "white list" under this configuration.
I used to swear by Netscape until 4.7 and the first collaborative 6.0 public release. I'm now rooted to using IE. |

| I was actually using the Yahoo pop up blocker and the ads were still running. Then I went into the registry to see what was going on. I found several programs that would add themselves back into the registry when I deleted the other. I detect these programs are the culprits but I cannot get rid of them. Since using Mozilla, they popup thingy and taking over of my browser scenario has yet to surface (fingers crossed of course). |

| Popup blocking is a great feature of Netscape/Mozilla - but its not the only reason to use them. The best feature, IMHO is the tabbed browsing. I don't have windows cluttering up my whole screen, and I can always "middle-click" to open up a new tab. That rocks. |

Please explain that. . . I have no idea what that is. |

Ok, go to the preferences dialog. Under navigator, go to "tabbed browsing". Clear the "hide the tab bar" check box. Make sure the other three check boxes are checked.
Now, when you see a link on a web page, you can middle click on it (or right click and choose "Open Link in new tab") and you'll see how this works. Its very cool. You can also use control enter in the address bar to do the same thing. |

| Thanks. Any good sites for Mozilla? |

Never really found any. I actually use Netscape at the moment - but I switch back and forth somewhat reguarily. Anything to avoid IE, you know? |

| It really is unfortunate how MS allows its browser to be whored out by advertisers and such. But then again, they're MS, like who else are people going to use. |

Never noticed that in Mozilla ... will have to look at it. It sounds a lot like the way Opera works out of the box (using the term "box" loosely.)
As for popups/ads, I I've been using AdSubtract Pro forever. Once you get it all tweaked up, it's works really well. |

I used Mozilla 1.4 for my Mac and PC. Then, I upgraded to 1.5. I use IE WHEN I need to (asp pages, etc.)
1.5 doesn't run well on my PC, but runs really nice on my Mac...go figure.
And, once you get used to "tabbed" browsing, it's hard to go back :).
Safari for the Mac is NOT ready for primetime...lotsa of work still needs to be done on that. |

I love tabbed browsing, though I use Opera instead of Mozilla for this. On acuramdx.org, I get a list of all threads with new posts. I scan down the list, and for each thread I'm interested in reading, hit Ctrl-Shift-click on the new message icon. That opens it in a background tabbed window. I can quickly click open five threads in a couple of second. After that, I just look at each window, and close it (Ctrl-F4) when I'm done.
This makes ready news story web sites and message boards like this one really fast.
I tried this with Mozilla and, while I liked Mozilla, I found Opera a bit faster for me in supporting more keyboard shortcuts. E.g. I can quickly move between tabs with the "1" and the "2" keys (had to learn these keystrokes but once I did, it's so fast). |

Firebird will be the one to use, at some point, right now, though, it has too many quirks for me. I used it for about a week, and it's still acting a lot like a beta. :) I'm sure it'll get there. |

| I use Opera 7. Faster than IE or Mozilla. BTW, to disable the netsend popup messages, go to your Services panel and disable Windows Messaging service. For IE popup windows I also found google does a decent job at filtering those. |

I have heard a lot about Opera (they always mention it on TechTV) ..I have a combo of IE and Avant. Agree on the Google tool bar....about the most transparent blockers I've seen yet. |
