By popular demand, we're going to give this a shot :)
Probably the best way to do this according to my F & I manager is to have people email with their year and mileage, as the prices do vary slightly as I'm told (I know very little about the way they work).
Everyone interested in an AcuraCare extended warranty, please email to acuracare@aol.com with your year, model, mileage, plan you're interested in, and zip code. I or David Chaplin (our finance and insurance manager) will be answering every email. I've set it up with the powers that be here at the dealership to get everyone the lowest price possible, so let's see how it works! |

| Tim, I am assuming that along with the quote, there will be details such as deductibles, etc. Correct? Also, are options (months/mileage) available or just one choice? Thanks for working through all the details and hassles for us! |
|
|
| hondacuraworld |
| Sure, I mean if there's a plan that you know you want, just mention that plan, or if you want a choice, just mention what you'd be interested in doing. |

| I sent an email asking about the standard 7/100/$0 plan, looking forward to hearing how it turns out. X has about 39,850 miles. |

One of our members posted this on another site.
Is the following part of the Acura Extended Warantee, or is it specific to this dealer. What does your dealership offer with respect to this type of refund?
"this is the exact document.
'A 100% money back guarantee on new vechicle extended
warranties that have not had any claims filed during the
extended warranty term. The offer is good to the original
purchaser only. The original purchaser must also be the
current owner of the vechicle that is covered under the
warranty issued, and the warranty term must expire. The
refund will not exceed the original purchase price paid by
the contract holder. '
This is the document on the dealers own letterhead so I'm sure it's offered by the dealer. The application for coverage coversheet from ACURA Care makes no mention of this." |
|
|
| slash007 |
| i was also offered that same deal when i purchased my mdx here from courtesy acura in lex. i turned it down, but now wish that i hadn't:( |
|
|
| hondacuraworld |
I have absolutely no idea to be honest. I don't believe we offer any kind of refund on plans purchased, but you can inquire when you ask about the plan.
Now even though I've helped to set this up with my F&I department, I have no control over pricing or contract structure......so let me know the kind of deals you're getting. |

Here's the response I just got:
The price for a 7yr or 100,000 mile extended warranty with a zero deductible will be $1660.00. Any further question please call David Chaplin at 716 632 1111.
Since I haven't shopped for this yet, is this a good price? |

I just received my quote back. While I appreciate the work done to get all this set up, it did confirm that I received a very good deal last month when I purchased my extended warranty from my Acura Dealer.
When purchasing my warranty, the dealer offered two types of warranties.
1) 100K, 7 Year, no deductible - $1400
2) 100K, 7 Year, no deductible - $1800 - this option provided the money back opportunity if I never had to use the warranty. The was basically the gambling person's preference.
I ended up going with option 1. Though I didn't like the price premium/risk opportunity of #2, I was impressed that Acura had come up with a creative alternative. |

| I realize that the extended warranty gives a lot of peace of mind if something major happens after the regular warranty, but that money is totally lost if you have a major accident and the vehicle is totalled, or if it's stolen. Can you claim an extended warranty on an insurance claim? |

Shop it before you think that's high. From what I know that's close to dealer cost. Ceenit's price is reflected by the fact that the vehicle purchse was happening at the same time I believe.
Those of you who have it, what have you paid? |
|

KenF,
I may have been mislead by the sales person at the dealership, but I was told that I could get a full refund if I changed my mind before the extened warranty kicked in.
HondaAcura World,
You are correct, the prices above we only available at my time of purchase. |

Basically the same price range that is always available at http://www.curryacuracare.com
The online quote for 7yr or 100,000 $0ded at curry shows $1780 but if you give them an accurate email address you will get a discount to use the month you entered the request, right now it is $90.
Ray Laks 7yr or 100,000 mile with a $0 deductible is $1660
Curry 7yr or 100,000 mile with a $0 deductible is $1780-90=$1690
Since Curry's price seems to be available all the time and not just a limited time group buy, $30 difference is not enough to encourage me to jump in right now.
As far as purchasing at the time of the vehicle purchase, I saw no discount there. In TN or AL when shopping the quote was about $2200 from the dealer so I opted to buy online later from Curry.
Thanks for trying (And see if you can show David how to turn off the caps lock :) ) |
|

| Actually, I was asking for 7 yrs 75k miles with zero deductible, the $1660 quote was for 7yrs 100k miles. (which is cheaper then curryacuracare's price) :) |

It does not appear that these price quotes take the mileage of the car into consideration, as my 2004 has less than 100 miles. Can anyone comment on this?
I'd also received a quote for $1660 for 7yr/100K. |
|

Wow....I guess I should count my blessings when I got my extended warranty (7yr/100k/0 dec) for $795.
Again, the dealer offered me this special price because of a mix up on financing paperwork. |

Go to the curry site to get a feel for the criteria. It looks to me that the quote for nearly any MDX still under factory warranty is going to be the same. |

Well I am confused. Curry charges more as the miles go up, presumably because AcuraCare will have the money for less time before the extended warranty will kick in while Ray Laks apparently charge less. For the vehicles with less than 10,000 miles this appears as a $30 difference between quotes, since the two prices diverge as the miles go up this quote is almost $300 cheaper than Curry.
I don't get it.... |

That's really strange. I wonder why the price ($1,445)would be so much cheaper for a 2002 with so many miles, vs my 2003 ($1,660) with under 10,000 miles. Maybe if I wait until my MDX is 2 years old, the price will go down. |

Ok, gave them a call, so here is what I have so far...
Ray Laks 7yr or 100,000 mile with a $0 deductible is $1660
Grand Honda 7yr or 100,000 mile with a $0 deductible is $1685
Curry 7yr or 100,000 mile with a $0 deductible is $1780-90=$1690
Ray Laks is the cheapest, but again, not by much so I don't think we will have any trouble getting a similar deal in the future so I will just wait. |
|
|
| Dick at Incline |
OK, I just talked with David Chaplin at Ray Laks today, and here's another option for those that drive more, or plan to trade in earlier. I have an '03 MDX and can get a 6 Year/100,000 mile 0-deductable warantee for $1355. $50 deductible makes no sense because the price drops to only $1320.
I will go for the 6/100,000 because I will probably trade-in (for another MDX) in 5-6 years. BTW, I called the dealer that I purchased from--figuring they would make me a good deal--repeat customer and all. Their price for the 7/100,000 is $2,195. and for the 6/100,000 is $1,795. Also, I called "Grand Honda" that advertises in "Bay-Area Check-book" and their price for 7/100,000 was $1785. I'll go with Tim for all the good (and very good-priced) service he has given to this board.
Remember also, that this is not an "After-market Warantee" but a continuation of the Full Acura warantee the same as it applies to the first 4 years/50,000 miles. |
|

| For the small difference I would certainly go with Ray Laks (a la Tim), given the choice. But it's nice to have alternatives for future consideration. |

Those are the prices posted on the web site and when you enter your email address they send you a discount, right now it is $90 through the end of the month so the price would indeed appear to be $1260 after the discount as I posted a couple messages above. |

IIRC location makes no difference...it's the current age/mileage on the car that matters.
Tier 1 (lowest rates): under 1 year AND 12k
2: under 2 yrs old AND 24k
3: under 3 yrs old AND 36k
4: under 4 yrs old AND 48k
Hardrock got bumped into a higher-priced tier based on mileage. I think. Hard to tell since not everyone is specifying their MY/mileage, deductible levels or year/mile warranty combos. |
|
|
| zafer |
I'm in my 1st yr, +/-9000 miles, and was quoted $1780 for 7/100K w/ $0 deduc for touring w/ navigation.
If location doesn't matter, why the zip code? |
|
|
| hondacuraworld |
| Zip code was my suggestion. IIRC there are a couple states that you can't buy an extended warranty out of state. |

Apples to apples, folks. What duration? What total mileage? What deductible?
Half the posts here omit some of that info. There is no way to compare to one another if peeps aren't providing all the info on their MY/currentmiles/duration/totalmiles/deductible.
Nonetheless, I highly doubt different peeps are getting different quotes for the same MY/mileage/term/totalmiles. |

I have a slightly off-beat question:
I already have an Acura extended warranty on my MDX, but since you are Honda dealers as well, can you possibly work with me on a Honda extended warranty for my S2000 (pseudo-group buy eligible :) )? If you think this would work, I'll email you with details.

After a quick look at this thread, I skipped the "shop for the best deal" and called Tim at Ray Laks. Tim assured me that their prices were highly competitive and this was good enough for me (Tim is always straight and his prices are always good). Anyway, I contacted Dave Chaplin at Ray Laks (handles extended warranty):
** We have 2002 MDX Touring/Nav.
** Our X is 23.5 months old (purchased 12/31/2001).
** Our X had 16,651 miles at 8:00am PST earlier today.
Based on what I have read, this would put us at Tier-2 (1-2 years old and under 24,000 miles).
** Price quote took 60 seconds or less.
** Discussion of coverage took 60 seconds or less (100% extension of factory warranty).
** Longest part was spelling my name (it is long), reading VIN number, and then the credit card number.
** Total transaction including hello and goodbye was under 5 minutes.
** That is what I call MARVELOUS.
The cost for a 7 yr/75,000 $0 deductible was $1,225.00 plus shipping/handling (just kidding about the shipping/handling).
After we were done, Dave did mention that the cost would have been higher next month because our X would have been 2-3 years old vs current 1-2 years old. I can't remember amount but is was under $100 increase. By the way, this is consistent with the Tier pricing suggested earlier in the thread.
If you value time and convenience, this was simply unbeatable. I remember discussing an extended warranty with my servicing dealer about 6 months ago and it was the normal:
** Dealer: $1,795.
** Me: "I would have to think about that".
** Dealer: This is almost cost ......
** Me: Yeah right, have a nice day.
** Dealer: [As I am walking out] Hey we want to work with you on this, give me a minute .... OK, we can do $1,750....
** Me: Have a nice day ....
** Dealer: [I have walked out, on my way to Svc Department to pick up the X] ... I think I can improve on the price, what did you have in mind?
** Me: To be frank, to pick up the X and go home. Have a nice day.
** Dealer: You have to work with me on this, there is only so much that I can do.
** Me: Why don't you concentrate on having a nice day. Bye.
** Dealer: Come back in, sit down, we'll work on this.
** Me: Picture this, I am sitting down, I am at home with a cold beer in my hand, this will occur in about 15 minutes but only if I get the service paper work in the next 35 seconds ... so PLEASE have a nice day -- and in case you don't get the rest of the picture ... I will too because I AM LEAVING NOW and NO, you are NOT going to sell me an extended warranty. You could have, but that was then and this is now. BYE. |

If all goes well tomorrow I may be buying.... MY OWN MDX!!! '03 Touring w/ NAV and RES at around 14k miles. From what I'm reading here it does sound like no one's really comparing apples to apples so.... I'm thinking along these lines as the template to use if we are to have a good understanding of what's out there and what's possible. Yes? :4: Someone stop me if I'm way off here, but I would like to know before I purchase around what price range I should expect to get a 7yr/100k/$0 (or up to $50 deductible if you've had good luck in the past with Acura (as I have) and don't foresee having to take it in every week just to see if the dealership's color scheme has changed. :) LOL Here goes...
Your Acura MDX info
****************
- Year:
- Model:
(Ex: Premium, Tour, Tour/Nav, Tour/Res, Tour/NAV&RES)
- # of Miles:
- Acura Certified already? (Y/N):
- Month/Year Originally Titled:
(ie., # months already into original warranty...
or remaining...whichever)
Extended Warranty specs
*********************
- Plan (years/miles/ded):
(Ex: 7/75/$0, 7/100/$0, 7/100/$50, etc...)
- Total Cost of Plan
Lots of variables, but I figure this is a good apples-to-apples comparison. |

CaptiveMind,
Sorry about the late reply, glad you enjoyed the "conversation".
I am a poor buyer, I do not like to haggle (I don't find it fun and I it is not one of my favorite games). That said, I do want a fair price. For me, the internet is great -- get to find out what a fair price is. If I get a fair price, no grinding, just a deal. If I don't, I'll simply go somewhere that I can get a fair price.
I live in a relatively nice area (approx. 6 years now) and evidently my neighbors are willing to part with their $$ too quickly. I have had to "leave the local area" to buy both of our last two vehicles.
I still remember looking at an Avalon at the local Toyota dealer. The sales rep indicated that they would "probably consider" $3K off of "window". I thought "not bad, sounds like approx $600 - $700 over invoice". THEN I found out that he meant $3K off of DEALER WINDOW which had added $2,000 to MSRP as "added dealer markup". When I said that this was $1K under FACTORY WINDOW, he explained to me that I was not correct, this was $3K under WINDOW. He was still explaining this to me as I walked to my car and was still explaining as I got in my car and was probably explaining this to me as I drove away. Unbelievable. |
