The 1st one was ok, the 2nd one was amazing. Planning on seeing the third on Friday night.
Just wondering if anyone saw it yet and if it was worth it. |

| Had a guy here at work that went to the midnight showing. He said it was very good. A lot of epic battle scenes, etc. He said it was about 3 hours and 20 minutes long!! Well worth it though. |

| I plan on seeing it sometime this weekend... Seeing that it's 3.5 hrs, I'll make sure it's a matinee... |

| I can't even remember a movie being 3 1/2 hours long. . . geez |
|
|
| phins2rt |
He also mentioned towards the end that the screen goes black. Everyone started to get up to leave but the movie started up again. There was still 20 minutes left!!!
I would suggest an empty bladder for this one. |

They did that on Tuesday around the country in some theaters- with the extended version of the first two and a sneak preview of the third. I couldn't sell the idea to the wife, plus there's that problem called work.
I'll wait until the extended version of all three are out, and then do it on the DVD player at home. I'm guessing somewhere around 11-12 hours for the total. |

I was sorry I missed out on purchasing the trillogy tickets on-line, and reselling them. People were paying between $300-$600 on ebay... |

| How about Ghandi? I saw that movie in the theatre as a teenager and at that point in my life I had never sat anywhere for that long before except for the principal's office. |

| Good call. "Gandhi", another epic, clocks in at 3:08. :o |

How the West Was Won (1962) - John Ford epic
It was 2:42. Came with a fixed intermission where they included about 10 minutes of theme based music and the words "Intermission" on the screen.

If you know Russian, go for "War and Peace" (1968), 8hrs 31mins.
If you know German and have an iron butt, see "Berlin Alexanderplatz", 15hrs 30mins, the longest narrative film ever made. |

I remember that one. I went to the theater to see another movie which was sold out so I chose Magnolia instead, not knowing anything about it. Over 3 hours later, I painfully pulled myself from the seat, grateful I was still alive:D . Yes, the Return of the King is longer but at least it's fast-moving and full of action. Magnolia was painfully slow. It only seemed like a 10 hour movie.
By the way, I haven't seen the 3rd one, but each of the first two are amoung my favorite movies ever. To me the 3 hours just flies by (unless you need to visit the restroom - make sure you stop by on the way in;) ) I almost left work early today to view the new one. |

Saw Return of the King last night.... very good. Peter Jackson deserves an Oscar for this. It might not be the best directed movie of the year, but he deserves it as the accumulation of all 3 films.
I remember seeing Gettysburg in theaters and they had an intermission because it was 3 hours long. They just stopped the movie halfway and had a 15 min break. Guess they don't do that anymore. |

| After almost 1 month this movie is still on top!!! I heard its going for 1 billion in profit (record breaking). The Special Effects were great but I still think the movie is just above average. :1: |

The movie was great, and if stick to the book 100%, it would have been like 4 hours...
Love the movie.. but love the book just a bit more.
Waitting to get the full set of DVD... like a box set or something..

I loved the movies, but I was disappointed by the fact that he made some significant changes from the books that weren't really needed.
I completely understand having to leave some sections out because of time, but changing the actions and thoughts of some of the major characters from what happened in the books left me puzzled.
Still, they are some of the best movies I've seen recently, and I'm really looking forward to the extended version of ROTK, and hopefully one day the Hobbit- which should be able to be made 100% by the book without needing to cut anything out. |

Love the movie. But I made sure my whole family went to the restroom first.
Gods & General from last summer was a long one. Came with a 10 minutes intermission. |

We finally saw it when the kids had a snow day today. Well worth it.
Amazing special effects, great story. |

That's one of the nice things about (although I shouldn't admit this) having not read the books yet. You really appreciate how well done these movies are since you are not aware of the things left out or changed...
...and now I will enjoy the books even more, right? ;) |
|
|
| KenF |
| reading the books would certainly fill in more of the story that they can't do in a 3.5 hour movie. Just don't get caught saying: "that's not how it was in the movie!" |
|
|
| laborlitigator |
| Anything major they left out of the movie? |
|
|
| KenF |
| for starters, the scouring of the Shire was completely left out. It was simply a time issue, since Peter Jackson needed to wrap things up faster, he skipped it entirely. I don't even think they filmed it for the extended DVD version. Same thing with Tom Bombadil in the first movie. |
