Well regardless of getting the shot, I got it. Man is this one different. It's instant like the flip of a switch, no gradual build-up. Hip hip hurray for Contact -
edit - false alarm, turned out to be a horrible cold |

| maybe you should put in COLD as well. My daughter and I got a nasty one. Been sick since Sunday and slowly getting better. It also has given us a case of the D. |

| Shot I got, no flu. Going on defensive by staying in my bunker until Spring. No travel, no visitors, not opening mail, not even taking phone calls. |

I had an enormously congested cold think over a month ago, but now I'm fine.
The wife & kids got flu shots and they are in various stages of fighting off flu sysmptoms...
I think the reports of the "this seasons vacine being out of sync with the flu strain" may be too true (though I also think that the media grabs ahold of anything that even remotely looks like "a good stroy" whether or not there is any real concern...) |

| Got my shot in October (over 60, so prime target for it). Have traveled all over the country and into the Caribbean since then. People getting sick all around me on planes and ships. So far, fingers crossed, I'm fine. |

No shot, no flu no colds. I have not been sick (cold or flu) for years. Never take the flu shot, as it always has a fairly low rate of effectiveness in any event.
Two grams of vitamin C a day is my ticket to no colds.
A couple of years ago, I was in meeting with 5 others. A person sat down next to me and announced he had a bad cold. I ran back to my office and grabbed a handful of 1 gram C tablets, and took one per hour. By the end of the week, I was the only participant who did not get the cold.
Vitamin C is an amazing thing. Unfortunately, however, there is no way to get enough from juices and other natural sources. :1: |

| While I had a flu shot given by my doctor (I'm over 60 yrs old and this is recommended as a precaution) and am one of the few in my circle of family and friends not to have gotten some variant of the flu or a cold I also subscribe to Maik's theory that Vitamin C is a great preventative for such things. My daily pill regimen contains 2 grams of C as well and has for years. That might be the real reason I don't get colds. I, too, recommend its use as long as you don't have other conditions for which Vitamin C might be counter productive. |

| Vitamin C is the trick. For instance, last week @ Arrowhead it was very cold and I had a decent cold myself so vodka and OJ it was all morning at the tailgate. This is not best for all but it worked like a charm for me in college and I continue this form of self-medicating when ever I have a bad cold. It is very important to note that you should not use the vodka/OJ formula and then drive your X. Bad Idea. I strongly suggest using Maik's formula of daily doses of C and rfowkes advice is very important as well. C is great to take as long as it doesn't conflict with any other meds or conditions. |

Unfortunately, the amount of vitamin C you got from the oj was worthless. You would have to drink several gallons of FRESH squeezed oj (not pasturized) to get any benefit that way. |

And all this time I thought it was the OJ that helped heal me, turns out it was the booze. :D Oh well, time to watch some football and have a drink. Go Chiefs!:7: |

The benefits of OJ far exceed the vitamin C content, which is much higher in other foods. So I would not stop drinking it just because it's not putting as much ascorbic acid into your system as you had hoped, I blend it with a banana and whey protein most every morniing for breakfast.. it's usually all I need for the first few hours of the day...

Well I am about to get the flu. I've been fighting the last few days but I got up to about 102 this evening. Two dosage of motrin helps with the fever but my whole body still ache.
One of my two sons (15 months) had the fever on Christmas eve and fever up to 104 on Christmas day. The emergency room was filled with people with the flu. Doctor said almost every case was the flu and that the flu shot doesn't help (my son had the shot 6 weeks ago.) He said the the shot was for a different strain of the virus, go figures!
I've been about a gallon of water the past few hours (mostly gatorade.)
For all of you who hasn't got it yet, stay away from public place! I know for sure my son contracted it from the pediatrician office for his 15 months checkup. |

Good comment. My wife's an RN at a local hospital, she says if want to stay well, stay away from the hospital, including the Dr's. Office.
We provide the Flu shot to our employees every October, so far I've been able to avoid it. However, we have had a rash of this recent Flu go through our workforce, at all our locations across the country. Its a tough one to beat. |

Isn't more than half a gram of supplement wise taken vitamin C just discharged from the body and proven to be damaging to the liver? |

I could be wrong, but I think it takes megadoses as suggested by Linus Pauling, and others at one time, to be potentially harmful. I think those that take more than 500-1000 mg are just wasting their money.
It's an over simplification that Vitamin C does all these wonderful things. Fresh orange juice contains excellent anti-oxidants. Vitamin C is only a lesser player. That's only ONE example...there are thousands of others..but it comes down to knowing what does what in your body, and working a system of nutrition that is balanced and where most if not all of the nutrients are from food and not supplements. |
