hey all in the SF Bay Area,

for those DIY'ers who have completed the VTM change...where did you obtain the pump?

im in san jose, and all of the local parts stores carry the valvoline pump, which we all know does not fit the VTM gallon spout (of course it doesnt).

i saw that sta-lube pumps fit...but cant seem to find those at kragen or autozone. id hate to buy at the dealer....just hard to justify spending 12.00 when i know i can get it for 5. hate giving into honda's proprietary rip-offs.

Hi!

I have an extra pump (brand new). Email me your address, the next time I go down to SJ or SF I will meet you some where to give it to you. About the price, pay me whatever price you think is reasonable. You can email me at petrusky@yahoo.com. By the way, when you do your VTM, DO NOT FORGET THE ATF AS WELL. I do not know why, but on my MDX, with under 30K miles, the ATF oil is as dark as engine oil.

Thanks, but I found the sta-lube pump and picked it up for about $8. I changed the ATF 4x to get the color back to brand new. I will now be changing 1x every time i change the oil, since it would only cost about $16. i couldnt believe the condition of my ATF. no tranny problems, but man, that can't be good.

Thanks to this web site I have some great digital pictures of where the drain plugs are located for the VTM fluid.
Can someone post digital pictures for the location of the ATF fluid drain plug????
Thanks in advance!

RC98,
Where did you find the pump?

All Parts Auto, 6071 Snell Ave, San Jose 408-362-1634. Call them up and see if they have the Sta-Lube Gear Oil Pump...I bought mine a few weeks ago, and I think it may have been the last on the shelf...I'm sure they could get one if they're out.

Tom, the ATF drain plug is easy to spot. Just look under the front end, in front of the driver's side tire. it's the only round plug that has a 3/8" socket insert. (it's facing the driver's side)

Make sure you use separate, DESIGNATED pumps for ATF and VTM-4 fluid. One parts guy at my dealer told me that someone's VTM went bad, most likely because the owner used a pump that had residual "something else" in it. He didn't specify what that "something else" was (may be motor oil), but he told me to make sure to not mix ATF and VTM-4 together.
