Here are some pics of my 2003 MDX installed accessories, included is the Escort 8500 under the RV Mirror, by adding a cigar lighter plug between the mirror and courtesy lights.
Also, a Cell phone added with a vent holder, I ran the power cord behing the facia panel into an added cigar lighter plug in the glove box. Also, I ran the power cord for the 2610 into the glove box outlet. The 2610 voice comes through just fine on volume setting 8 on the interface control, so the speaker in the glove box is no problem.

Anyone have any other suggestions or ideas for this kind of accessory installation, please write in, I'm always looking for input and better ideas!

AHHH! you can reply to your own thread. There is NO need to start a new thread for each picture. Im gonna merge all the threads you made.

so do they come in different color or does it only come in neon yellow.LOL. The tennis ball idea is simple but effective. Nice job on the install on the electronics. How's your take on the Garmin unit. Is it easy to use while you're driving?

The 2610 is about my third GPS device, having had an old Garmin II, and a couple of laptop USB GPS devices, I finally gave up and bought the latest and greatest. It was a Christmas gift from myself.

I have had some experience with Honda and Acura OEM units, and this 2610 is 98% of their capability. It's fast, it aquires quickly, it routes nicely, has great FIND capability, all similar to the OEM GPSs I've seen. At about a third the price, I feel it was well worth it, I am extremely happy with it. If you didn't get the factory NAV system, this is probably as close as you can get.

Plus it has the added benefit of going from vehicle to vehicle (I have two Acuras), so that is handy. It also downloads your tracks with time/distance data into your computer, which is nice. I am hoping the CD is updated frequently, so the database is current. I can also download OS patches into the 2610 as bug fixes, etc. become available.

No such thing as an all glowing post, so here's my (short) gripe list:
no internal operating power, you are tethered to a 12volt vehicle. The screen is bright and readable, but could have been bigger. And I suppose at $999 retail, it is a bit pricey for a GPS gadget. I paid $799 through Amazon.com. Still, if someone broke a window and ripped it off, I'd be pretty pissed. That isn't likely with an OEM NAV. I do put it in the glovebox when parking at malls, etc.

My latest aquisition is a XM Sat Radio, would love to hear installation ideas from someone who has installed. I don't have the BlitzSafe device yet, but will get one soon. I got the little Roady device, which for now I stick in the center console. But a more sophisticated (permanent) install would be nicer...

The unit comes with a IR remote, which is fully functional. Very handy while driving. Hardly use the touch screen capability, the remote works perfectly for me.

Also, I wanted to mention the way the Garmin mounts onto the dash. I did not use the "permanent" sticky pad that comes with the Garmin, instead I used aquarium adhesive. After testing on a not so noticeable area, the adhesive sticks like crazy, but pulls off with enough force, and the residue rolls off with your finger, without a mark or smudge. I've used it on cell phone holders also, and it sticks on the "wood" parts just as well.

Just thought you should know that you have a better GPS than the Acura GPS. I have an MDX with Nav and I also own a Garmin Street Pilot III which has essentially the same operating features as the 2610 except without the touchscreen and the remote.

My Garmin is consistently more accurate in finding points of interest, has a better internal roadmap, and is much more user freindly. I think the Acura (Alpine) system is highly inferior to Garmin's. And as you said, 1/3 the price!

So feel good about your 2610.

You may want to consider a Panavise phone mount for a little less cluttered look.

I'm confused w/the 8500 install. Why not get the hardwire kit and avoid the extra cig lighter socket up on the headliner? You can put the remote down under the "not an ashtray" for easy access. Grab power from the P or D side fuse panel, or the backside of an accessory socket like you've already done.

Concur w/DaleB on the Panavise for the phone. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info on the phone holder, I like it and am going to order it - great idea!

As for the 8500 install question, my primary motivation for adding the outlet is that it makes it real easy to switch from car to car. I know there's an RJ45 (phone-style) clip on the unit itself, but that style clip eventually breaks with too much connecting. I use the MDX and another Acura ( a '92 Legend with 285k miles) to commute with, switching back and forth to distribute mileage evenly. I have a long commute, 75 miles each way.

Thus the need for the 8500, and the need to easily switch between cars!
