I can't find Outlook Express!
I use Outlook XP for my email but now want Outlook express for newsreader. But I can't find it anywhere on my computer. I think I deleted it or hide it somewhere but I even used "find" for Outlook express application but so far I have no luck. I tried going to Outlook>view>go to>but can't find the "News" button either!
Any body here show me the file path? |

File path for Outlook Express w/XP on my notebook is:
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\
You can reinstall by going to:
Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, then select Outlook Express
you may need the XP installation CD |
|
|

| I've tried that already and still won't come out. |

| In Outlook 2002, on my notebook, the view>go to>News works fine. Have you tried reinstalling Outlook (not express)? |

| I've got Outlook 2003 on my XP machine. When I look for the Newsreader in Help, I get the instructions to add it to the menu. It's a bit convoluted but, it seems to work. |

| Place this - C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe - in the run command (Start --> Run) and hit enter. This should bring up Outlook Express. |

| Why dont you just forget about outlook express and get a real newsreader. Xnews gets my vote. plus its free. Get it here I used to use Outlook but it had sever limitations. |

| I use Agent, Newsgrabber Pro and the HTTP version of easynews.com. Outlook Express is too much work dealing with attachments. |

| Thats a good idea. I'll try it and what you all are up too! |

I tried this but I can see the "go" category. I think I cleaned up my system pretty good.:( |

Hey, what CD specifically did you use to install Office XP? Is it Home or Pro edition? Did you get it from work or you bought from store or...? |

Okay, I have a stupid Outlook Express question. I hope someone here can answer it for me. I just upgraded to the newest version of Outlook Express at work a month or so ago, and now I can't open attachments. Before, they appeared in the text window, and there was also a paperclip icon showing at the side. Now, there is nothing in the text window except any text that accompanied the attachment. If I click on the paperclip, it shows that there is an attachment, but it is greyed out, so of course if I try to click on it, nothing happens. Everything worked perfectly before the upgrade.
I'm not a computer genius so if you have any ideas, please speak plain English.
Thanks,
Mrs. BigDog |

| In Outlook Express click on TOOLS menu and select OPTIONS. Click on the SECURITY tab and uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened.............." box. |

Just Microsoft's way of keeping you safe...
(the fact that they let all all kinds of worms and viruses get through notwithstanding.) :) |

Why yes, I do! At home, where WE get to decide what to buy.:D
We had a Mac for years before getting computers at work, and let me tell you I was pissed off every day that I had to learn how to do everything the PC way which was never as fast, easy, or intuitive as the Mac way I was used to. I came home with a headache every day for a month.

OK, before I venture out of Acura MDX.org site to get answer to this question, maybe you can help me on this.
I got a Gigabyte mainboard GA-7VAXP
running XP Pro: SP1 (5.1.2600)
updated BIOS
768mb RAM
Althon XP 1241MHZ
NVIDIA GeForce 5200
Realtec AC'97 audio for VIA
Netgear Router
Saitek Cyborg Evo (joystick)
Bluetooth USB
...when I try to edit my bios settings because my computer keeps turning on at exactly midnight! I figured its the "wake on LAN" enabled on settings on BIOS. BUT all the configurable settings on BIOS are greyed out. I used to change the settings OK, that is, its not greyed out.
Any suggestion what settings somewhere I messed up? |

Need more info:
Are you sure that the settings you are looking at are not greyed out due to "plug n play" enabled OR a "jumper setting" OR an admin password???
Are you sure that your NIC is a "wake on LAN" model -- if it isn't that would explain the setting being greyed out...
To me, I doubt this is a wake-on-LAN situation -- you'd have to something sending a WAKE signal to your machine's MAC address or a LAN wide WAKE @ midnight-- pretty unlikely.... AND easy to test, just unplug the ethernet cable!
I suspect it is some dumb program trying to download some dumb thing -- under XP even the OS itself can be set for "check for updates" and 12:00:00 seems like a good dumb default...
Let us know what you find.... |

Its plug n play enabled and it is like that since but I used to change BIOS settings so its not plug n play.
I'm the admin although is not one of the choices but I remember my password and get in OK, so it is not the problem.
I never played with "jumper setting" so I don't think either its the problem.
I doubt it myself that it is the wake on LAN settings here is the pics and I think I know the culprit...but as I said its all greyed out. |

| Here's the pics to "Power Management Options" Its clored yellow so I can press enter and look in its options. But Notice the other choices on the right are greyed out? It not like that before. |
|
|
| cardingtr |
When I enter Power Management Setup, I can see the choices/options. It used to be yellow colored but now it is greyed out or shadowed.
I can see it but can't change it.
Notice "Resume by alarm? I think that is the problem.:( |
|

| Yup thats the problem set that to disable and you are set, looks like it is set to turn on @ 12am. |

In the photo you attached it appears that is "greyed" -- that suggests a) it is SET & b) you did NOT enter it for the photographed session...
Enter that 'supervisor password' and all the greyed out stuff is again open to change... |

How can I change the "supervisor password" if that option is greyed out? The pointer won't even go there. All the secondary options are greyed out. The whole Bios options is locked that is the problem. One Forum suggested incompatibility with Memory I added but I removed it but it is still the same.
Now I am thinking about resetting the bios but I don't know about its implications.
I flashed the BIOS a week ago using Gigabyte automated online flashing I don't know if that made it. |

If you bought this new there ought to be documentation on how to set/clear the "supervisor password". It might require quite a few steps, the idea is that in an office environment you don't want this to be easy or else the mail clerk is going screw-up the computer...
If you flashed the BIOS I'd check back with the manufacturer to get info from them.
Good Luck! |

| If I were you, I'd flash it again directly, the old fashion way, with a floppy. And if that doesn't seem to make a difference, reset the bios. There shouldn't be any bad implications. To reset the bios, there should be a reset jumper, or more likely just two pads near the lithium battery that need to be shorted for an instant. Check the mb manual. Usually the pads are clearly marked RST on the silk screen. You can do it with the tip of a conductive flat screwdriver, or paper clip. Make sure you ground and discharge yourself before touching any circuitry. Good luck! |

Its fixed. I am able to disable the "wake on alarm" function.
I remove the battery, waited 10 minutes and put it back on.
When I entered BIOS settings, it is all yellowed(configurable, not greyed out).
I didn't expect my BIOS is still updated. Version F14. My manual says it should be F1.
Thanks for all your input. |

| Well once flashed it is flashed unless you do it again with the original ( you did make a back up of your original?) Glad it worked out. |
|
|
| cardingtr |
Actually I'm happy it didn't revert back to original BIOS version. Now I realized the problem is not the updated BIOS since it still says F14.
What changes happened when I removed the battery?
Sorry for asking too many questions..... |

| When you remove the CMOS battery, the BIOS reverts to the default settings (not the default version, just the settings). You can check your MB manual to see what is the default, but since you flashed it, some items may have changed since the manual was printed. You can visit the company's website, and see if they have a newer version of the manual available for download. More likely than not, the default settings are the same, but maybe some new options were made available. Re-check your settings to be sure the resume on alarm is not enabled. That would probably not be a default setting, however. BTW, which BIOS do you have? Award, AMI, Phoenix? Good luck. |

Ahh! It doesn't matter. My problem solved. |
