| I was wondering for those who have tried a taillight conversion from the mdx '01-'03 to '04, is it basically the same fit? I actually own a '04 and am thinking of switching the tails back to the '01-'03 assembly. I tried a search before, but I don't think I came up with any answers. Thanks for any help with info on the tails. |

Yes, the outward dimensions and attachment points are exactly the same. Only the internal design & the harness is different. You will have to buy a pair of taillight harnesses (both sides identical), but at least they plug directly into the body electrical harness without any modification. Its truly a plug and play conversion. Eventually, someone will bust an 04 taillight & will want to buy a used one, just hold onto it.
So you think all that chrome at the top sucks too, eh?
Here's another thought;
maybe an 01-03 owner in your area would like to swap with you? Just meet somewere with a flat & phillips screwdriver. You wouldn't want to ship them to each other because then you wouldn't be able to drive your car while you're waiting. No cost, minimal time investment. This way, two different people each save about $500. Ah, the power of the NET.
Of course, I'm messing up my For Sale ad by suggesting this, but anything for a happy forum, right? |

| Thanks alot for the reply. I was just wondering what you meant by taillight harness? Is it easy to find, can I pick it up at any store? Would I have to order it? |

| Tim - there's an opportunity for you...along with the '04 tailight kit, maybe offer an '03 "downgrade" kit for those who do not like the changes as much...? ;) |

The taillight harness is that bundle of electrical wire-ry looking stuff which connects the lightbulbs at the branched ends and collects all the wires into a plug connector, which mates to the vehicle's body harness in the rear quarter panels. See pict below.

I don't suggest you pick this up at an automotive parts store, its not a generic part, every harness on a vehicle (other than the removable section of a trailering harness) is both device and vehicle specific.
Would I have to order it?
Yes, you can order the two harnesses when you order your taillights.
I only have the part# for the '04 version. You'll need to talk to an Acura parts person; ask for 2 units for the '01-'03 taillight harness. They'll know exactly what you mean by this term. It will not be in stock, but usually deliverable in 2-3 days. Should retail for around $52 each and your order taker can tell you if the part is warehoused locally. If you think you will have trouble making yourself understood, print out this post and photo and take it with you. |

Where are you located, GorayOMD? It would be helpful to know just in case you're located close to someone wanting to trade.:D |

| I saw in previous post that you have the part number for '04 version. Because I want to swap from '01-'03 version to the new taillight's from '04 so I need harness for '04 not for '01-'03 right ? I got '02 MDX. Thank's for replay |
