New Teflon Car Products from DuPont and Tenneco - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just saw an announcement for a new line of car care products from Tenneco. Products include washes, waxes, and tire treatments. There may be interior care products as well, I don't remember. Most, or all of the formulations incorporate DuPont Teflon.

Aside from DuPont's expertise in Teflon applications, there was a day when they had a pretty good line of waxes and polishes. You younger folks may remember Rain Dance, but us grey haired types remember them for DuPont #7. They've been out of the consumer car care business for a long time, but they are one of the biggest names in auto finishes.

The new care products are supposed to start showing up in the stores in January (not sure what stores). I will probably give them a try when the winter weather breaks. If any of you folks living in a milder climate get around to using any of these products, I sure would like to hear some reports. I doubt these products will dethrone Zaino, but the Teflon concept is intriguing.

Yes, but these are Tenneco products, not DuPont. If they use a smidgen of Teflon in their products they are obligated to use the name DuPont who has the patent on Teflon.
Do not confuse this with being a DuPont product, as I well remember the older ones. Which were not bad for their time but they have superseded by superior products like Zaino and Klasse, and others that do not even use Teflon. Each product has to stand on it's merits regardless of what ingredients it contains.
There is nothing that I am aware of that says any product is better or worse because it contains DuPont Teflon.

Do you really believe DuPont allows customers to simply use a smidgeon of their products in exchange for fees and labeling? If so, you are sadly misinformed. The Teflon name is worth millions of dollars and if DuPont were to begin prostituting that trademark in products with no verifiable benefits it would soon be worthless.

Also, you say you are not aware of anything that says a product is better or worse because it contains Teflon. Where have you been?

I am not suggesting that the new Tenneco products will be better or even equal to Zaino. However, I am interested in getting opinions from people who have used the products.

::::Allows them??? Anybody can buy Telfon in bulk and add it to any product, you know different?

::::Where have I been? I've seen products come and go like Slick 50 and Tufoil and others that contain Teflon which have no added benefit to longer engine life. But it sounds good if it is added to snake oil. Don't get me wrong, Telflon is a great development. That does not mean it is the ultimate ingredient to make any product the ultimate product.

Here's an interesting product...maybe it would be better with Teflon...?

IIRC, Dupont itself has publicly and repeatedly stated that Teflon has absolutely no benefit in a car wax/polymer since bonding of Teflon requires high temps, which doesn't occur w/waxing a car.

Like DaleB said, Teflon in car wax products = snake oil/marketing hype.

None of the leading and "best" waxes/polymers for detailing have Teflon. Zaino, Klasse, Sovereign, P21S, S100, Meguiar's pro line, Blackfire, etc. None.

We might've discussed it here once upon a time. Search for Teflon to check...there'll be a quote or link to the Dupont statement. If not here, it'll be on www.autopia.org
