Went for my 7500 oil change which was supposed to be free. First, they tried to change the rear differential fluid (I believe) although it is not in the manual for 7500 mi. They were pushy even though I said I dont go off-roading or drive much in stop and go traffic. Finally they gave in after I raised my voice to the service guy. Then, at the end, they tried to charge me for the oil change. If I were naive, I'd have paid for it.
Do they think that most Acura owners have more money than sense? Is this type of crap standard in most dealerships? BTW, the dealership was Pohanka Acura in Chantilly, VA.

That does sound shady. I wouldn't go back to them. I simply bring my X to my mechanic and have him do all of the servicing that is listed in the manual. He does it for about 1/2 the price and I trust him.

Thanks, LL. Since oil change was free, I took advantage of it. Hope your mechanic isn't a Pats fan. He may sabotage your beloved X if he finds out you pick Titans over Pats next week. Just kidding.

Unfortunately, he's a sorry Giants fan, like I am.

Hi Keremoner:

___They can be, that is for sure … Might I suggest that when you go in for your 15K maintenance, that you don’t let them change your VTM but go to a Honda dealer instead? You will save at least $30.00 for the exact same job easy. Secondly, when you do go in for that 15K oil change, hand the service rep 5 Qt’s. of Mobil1 0w-20 or 5W-30 and a Walmart purchased SuperTech ST7317 filter. The Engine you help save is actually your own ;)

___Good Luck

Hi CaptainMDX:

___Yes, they will … The local Honda dealer near me will do a change on the X for just $9.00 if I hand them the oil and filter. The same with the Insight which is kind of neat because it only takes 2.5 Qt.’s of Mobil1 Synthetic 0W-20 and needs some underbody panels removed which are a SOB to say the least. ~ $21.00/change which includes the price of the Mobil1 and the SuperTech I hand them if I decide to have them do it next month. They will even change the Corolla’s in this manner for just $9.00. I have read that DaleB’s local Acura dealer charges him just $6.xx if he hands them the oil and filter as well. Some Sam’s Club’s have 6 Qt. cases of Mobil1 Synthetic 5W-30 for around $23.00. Don’t forget your local Walmart Super Center with Oil and Lube bays. $27.00 which includes 5 Qt.’s of Mobil1 Synthetic, a filter of your choice (SuperTech is the only one I use), and tread depths … If you have a Firestone near you, you may want to ask about that price as well. I haven’t asked my local Acura dealer what they charge with a self purchased oil and filter but I can bet it will be similar to the Honda dealership or DaleB’s local dealer. It is just to darn cold in my locale to change oil and filters right now …

___As for VTM, the local Honda dealer will do it for $69.00 while the local Acura dealer charges $99.00. The Acura dealer does do a wash of the X when any service is performed but it isn’t a spectacular wash if you know what I mean. A local shop will do a VTM change for < $30.00 if you hand them the VTM fluid …

the acura dealer in lisle charges $41 for vtm (rear diff) change. at least that what it says on their maintenance pricing on their website.
Taiwanese
It's easier for a shop to change VTM fluid and transmission fluid than engine oil. Oil change requires extra step of replacing oil filter.

So they should charge you $6 or $9 when you bring them the fluid for either service.

Why $30 labor charge for VTM? Not done often so more $$?

I know you can't fight it but just does not make sense to me at all.
