I know there a few members who own a 350z. My wife has her targets set on one of these things and was wondering if anyone who owns one could give me some feedback on the vehicle. It would be an automatic. Not worth the hassle of a standard transmission in Atlanta. Let me know. I admit the car looks fantastic but I am leary of Nissan products from experiences shared by friends. Granted this was 10 years ago but some things just get emblazed in the mind.

Thanks in advance

There are a few of us who have the Infiniti G35 (the z's "cousin") and based on the PM/emails we've traded (when I was still looking) everyone's quite happy.

I know on the G35 boards there are no major problems reported. From my perspective the reports and comments were favorable for the first year model (03) though I have the 04. I do know there have been issues w/the 6 speed manny but none of significance with the auto.

www.freshalloy.com and www.my350z.com are good resources to take a peek.

hockyplayer,

Here's a pic of the Nissan 350Z that I like::29:

I'm assuming you don't have kids, but if you'd like the practicality of a rear seat, you might want to take a look at the Mazda RX-8. Personally, I like the styling better and it handles like a real sports car (haven't been able to test drive a Z yet). Wankel doesn't get very good mileage though. I did lurk on a Z site one afternoon and I saw one guy complaining loudly about reliability issues (n=1).

One word: ProCharger. ;)

Procharger?????

Update: Test drove the exact color that Excalibur posted. Gorgeous look. Dealer threw us the keys to an 04. ALRIGHT PEOPLE....WHAT THE HECK DO YOU NEED THAT MUCH POWER FOR:D After the testdrive my wife turned to me and said "My heart is trying to pound out of my chest!". The car is a pure sports car but she has decided that the 350Z may not be for her. I agree it would be great for a fun car but for everyday commuting I don't think so.

SOOOOOOOO.....I took her to the Infiniti dealership.(Thanks Worm) She LOVES the G35 Coupe. We test drove one there and the thing is TIGHT. We drove both the coupe and the sedan. Both are great but I could tell by her tone that she is partial to the coupe. We are heading out today to check out a Black Coupe with Navigation. She is very excited so we will see what today brings.

Does anyone here own a new Nissan/Infiniti with the DVD based nav?? Just curious how it is? I realize it is not as good as the Acura/Honda offering but I am glad she now recognizes how useful a navigation system can be(THANKS ACURA)

Thanks

Yea, that pic that Excalibur posted is Daytona Blue I believe. Really nice color (not available on the G).

IMO the G35c is better looking than the z (as good looking as the Z is), and you only give up 7 horses (280 vs 287), but gain the backseat along with a more usable (still small, tho) trunk and more "upscale" interior. I'm biased, of course, and haven't driven the z since the backseat (for carseats) was a must-have for me.

I didn't get the nav...though the lack of touchscreen and inability to use it while moving were deal killers. Gonna do a Garmin 2610 instead. Got everything else, though and highly recommend all the other package options.

Happy shopping. In addition to Fresh Alloy (linked above) www.g35driver.com has good info on the G, too.

hockeyplayer and TheWorm,

If I were to buy a new car, I would really consider both the Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35. Thanks for the lively discussion on both vehicles.:29:

Here's a pretty hot pic (not mine, I'm a lousy photographer):

More here with a variety of colors (G35driver's just-started photo contest).

TheWorm,

Thanks for the link. I usually don't like red, but in this case, I'll gladly make an exception.:10:

The wife went out today and test drove a red one like the one in the pic. She actually said to me yesterday that she would not consider red but I told her to check it out anyways. Of course I get a call midday saying that it looks awesome. People who are thinking of a second car I would recommend this little number. I figure we should have a new garage-mate by the end of the week. We really are sad to see the Jeep go but I am sure we will get over it. I would also like to disspell the myth that Jeep's are piece's of junk. Not only was our Jeep Wrangler a joy to drive but was trouble free in 36,000 miles. I, myself was skeptical but I will admit I would smile when I drove it. I love the "Jeep Wave". Around these parts there is a similar wave for the MDX owners but it entails lifting nose to vertical position and trying to look down at next owner. :wtf:

This is what I want to see.

Oops. . . here's the better one.

I prefer the G35 coupe to the Z. Find the z to be bulbous- in the front and the rear. Also, the interior of the G35 is superior. Fun car either way.

Hockeyplayer, I owned a G35 coupe 6 speed for about a year and sold it for the X! I absolutely loved the vehicle, solid and tight with no mechanical ills whatsoever. Didn't have the NAV so I can't comment on it- Birds eye view is a cool feature though! In the coupe you get 2 plus 2 seating, car is a little heavier than the Z, but the suspension is tuned a little softer for every day driving. I have 4 children, the youngest being 4, and many times I would pick her up in the coupe. Not something you want to do every day in a two door car. I think now you can have one below MSRP. I'll be looking for another coupe in late '05. Good luck
