Radio Data System, where is the text displayed? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Sir P
I dont have an MDX yet, so I am asking the owners this question.

Does MDX read the RDS (radio data system) signal? Where is that text displayed if you have the nav option? Is it possible to display RDS info and CD tracks on the NAV screen?

I could not find anything on this site about RDS, maybe I was not looking thoroughly enough. I will appreciate any help. Thanks!
KenF
I know CD's aren't displayed on the NAV screen, and I don't think any RDS info is displayed either. I don't remember reading about that system when I looked through the manual.
Sir P
So where is the RDS text displayed if not on the Navi screen? Does it appear on the two small "screens" below the Navi screen? It will be difficult to read there...
KenF
Let's back up a second, I don't even know if the MDX has RDS. If it does then I haven't used it. The only display on the radio that I have seen is the standard time/freq/CD track etc.

The 2004 does not have the RDS? I would never suspect this! I have this feature on my 3 year old US made truck! This is a GREAT feature, I love it. Dispalys full station name, song title, singer name, etc. It is a real pity if MDX does not have it. I hope this does not sound nitpicky :)

Can anyone please check your manual and/or MDX ( I still do not have my MDX)?
asn
no need to look it up - the MDX doesn't have RDS

:6: Too bad :(

Isnt that feature inherited from satellite radio equipped automobiles? I know GM (and others) have partnered with XM radio as well as Delco (and others), but I dont know about Honda or Bose. I am sure this feature could be added without satellite radio equipped automobiles, but just wanted to throw that out there.

RDS is completely independent standard, was developed in 1987 I believe. I have no idea why a luxury SUV does not have it, it is the simplest feature imaginable. Acura's oversight?
asn
My BMW had it, and so does my wifes Ford. The Acura doesn't have it, but the Acura does have a better built car...
Sir P
Probably I need to blame Bose not Acura for the absence of RDS.
I agree with your point about the better build, however different people look for different things in a car: some want japanese quality, some want german comfort, some want heavy duty performance, some want top notch high tech features. Acura's better built is not the main reason for me personally to get an MDX.

Nope, if Acura wanted RDS, they would have specified it. Bose only includes the features specified by Acura.

I recently pulled an old home receiver out of the closet to use in the garage and discovered text displayed when I played the radio. Apparently when I purchased this old Kenwood nobody transmitted RDS around here. In any case it disappointing that Acura didn't put a MUCH better head unit in. These GM cheapo rental cars I have been driving are so much nicer.
RDS, Search for Station type, Auto Time set from RDS, Auto Volume based on speed, Auto EQ.

Very disappointing!
Sir P
ditto!
