This can be a silly question... Will the rear window spoiler increase HP/performance/rear traction or is it purely decorative?

I've ordered it on mine. I expect it to increase horsepower by about 20%, rear traction by about 10% and MPG by 15%.:bsflag:

Actually I'm sure its purely decorative. I ordered it because I like the way it looks. I would assume its sole purpose in life is to help keep the rear window a little bit cleaner.
Maik
It does a terrific job of keeping the rear end down. My rear wheels have not lifted once yet!

Actually, based on the speed with which my rear window gets filthy, I would suggest that it is purely decorative.
DaleB
At the speed where the spoiler starts to have a significant effect on aerodynamics, it becomes detached from the rear hatch mounting area. At this time, if the driver is still conscious, he or she likely has white knuckles and are attempting to control the direction of the vehicle with the steering wheel, to no avail for the vehicle's front wheels are presumed to no longer be touching a solid surface at this velocity.
Should the driver be able to slow sufficiently to regain control of the subject vehicle, it is recommended they obtain 3rd party warranty service, for Honda motors can no longer honor any warranty claims arising from stupid owners performing such antics, or other indications that the owner has an IQ level suggestive of super- market produce. :D

Your sig says you have the rear deflector as opposed to the 2004 rear spoiler. I wonder if the new spoiler performs any different than the deflector. Probably not. They are both just a decorative piece that does make the MDX look better IMHO.

Excalibur, for the very informative reply! :D

In my experience, the '04 spoiler does not help keep the rear window cleaner than without it. I actually think it helps direct the gunk TO the rear window!

But I'm keeping it because it really makes the X look great!

BTW Excalibur, you forgot "For external use only" ;)

Seriously, the Rear Tailgate Deflector and the Rear Tailgate Spoiler simply lend a "sporty" look to the MDX. I have the Rear Tailgate Deflector and notice that it does help keep the rear window cleaner of dust, especially at freeway speeds. YMMV.:4:

So noted. I shall bring this up at the next Board of Directors meeting.:29:

I guess there is no such thing as a stupid question. So what about the front air deflector?
DaleB
Protects the hood mostly, and reduces bug splatter on the windshield.

How can you say "No postage necessary if mailed in the United States" and "Post office will not deliver without postage"???

Maybe you can sneak out with commercial pre-paid postage, or freight and carrier delivery.

SP many of your posts have been BS and sad attempts to gain points and posts. How about you stop asking stupid questions buddy... Guys... stop encouraging him... geesh... i still don't like that ewtd guy though...

Sir P
BBM, why did you reply with this BS message? Do you realize you cause extra posts/points for me? Should I in turn accuse you of making sad attempts at raising _your_ points? Send a private message instead if you have something personal to say to me.

I am making a buying decision, I need all the input I can get from here. This post may look suspicious to you, but I always had clear intentions to simply get informative feedback about MDX, accessories or options. I do not care about number of posts I have here, once I make my decision what to buy you can expect me to frequent this forum less.

As of now, two more weeks till the MDX I ordered arrives to the dealership, so it means two more weeks of your pain :)
Captain MDX
For give him Sir P, he's like that all the time :trustme:

What does this have to do with anything? Everyone was poking fun at Excaliburs humorous post. SirP questions on other posts don't differ much from other new users who dont own a MDX but want the most info they can find. Now lets get along. :4:

I have the old style one.. and found it does keep the back a bit cleaner then without it.

So if you have to clean your windows like I did.. you might want to get the old style one..

If you just want to make your x look cool, get the new one!

As to +hp ..etc.. just remember.. you not driving an F1 car trying to win the race.. so who cares?

Technically that is not a spoiler, that is a deflector.

How much longer until we start to see the "knock off" 04 spoilers?? I can't justify the price Acura wants for the OEM one.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of a rear spoiler vs. deflector? Other than cosmetics do these accessories help the car in performance, etc.? Thanks everyone!!!!
