Proposed new system for 2004 MDX - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have the base model MDX (without Bose) and have come up with the followng audio system to replace the stock unit:

Headunit (HU) - I want to leave the stock unit in place so that I don't lose my steering controls and to keep the stock look. I plan on using the high level speaker outputs to drive the amp. Unless the HU has a set of pre-amp outputs (low-level). Which I don't think so, could someone verify this on a 2004.

Amp - I was thinking of getting two US Acoustics USX2100 amp (100wattsx2 @ 4ohms) which has high and low inputs from thezeb.com for $99 each. One would power the front two speakers and the other would power the sub in mono configuration which is 300watts @ 4ohm (http://www.usacoustics.com/specific...sfet_specs.htm0

The dimensions are length = 11", width = 9.6" and height = 2.5"

I would like to minimize the amount of disassembly of the brand new MDX and install the amps under the seats and just run a set of speaker cables to the back of the car to the sub. I also would like to run thicker speaker wires to the front doors but read that someone was getting alot of noise pickup from doing this?

I don't have the CD changer and don't plan on getting one. So the passenger and driver side under spaces will be available.

Speakers - I have on order the CDT HD-62EF component speaker (2.75" depth) from thezeb.com ($199). I plan on replacing the front / rear door speakers and connecting the CDT CL-6x slim coaxial (2.25" depth) speakers in the rear doors.

Sub - I really haven't come to closure with this, but here are my selected few (not in order of preference): Looking for best Sound Quality, not interested in SPL

1. IDQ 10d4v2 (dual 4 ohm) with 5.25" depth.

$146 at audionmore.com (http://www.audionmore.com/Merchant2...uct_Code=100114)

Comments: Overall good SQ and SPL speaker.

2. JL Audio 10W0-4 (single 4 ohm) with 5.375" depth.

$99 at onlinecarstereo.com
(http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarA...ProductID=10740)

Comments: Foam surround tears easily at high power (watts)

3. ADS r10s (dual 4 ohm) with 5.25" depth.

$184 at audionmore.com
(email quote)

Comments: Seems to be a good SQ speaker but lacks lower end, Frequency response from 40 Hz.

4. DEI Viper 10.2 (dual 4 ohm) with
4.6" depth
http://www.directed.com/audio/viper...lt.asp#features

$153 at Main Street Audio
http://63.74.14.174/directed/direct...r_woofers.shtml

Comments: Freq. Res. from 25 Hz, shallow depth.

5. Soundstream Exact EXW-10 with
5.3" depth
http://www.soundstream.com/sub/products_subs_exact.html

$182 at Main Street Audio
http://www.mainstreet-audio.com/sou...ubwoofers.shtml

Comments: Works well in free air, Freq. Res. from 25 Hz.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Leonard

I am stuck in deciding on which of these amps will give me the max. SQ. I am not interested in SPL, just clean, detailed sound.

Please comment on each or on the those you've heard.

He's a list of the cost of each and watts at 4 ohms.

Avionixx AXA 600.4, 4x110 watts, $280
Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4, 4x75 watts, $279.95
Precision Power, PCX-480, 4x80 watts, $229
Soundstream, RUB600-4, 4x80 watts, $219

Which of the above would you recommend as the best in SQ (Sound Quality)????

Thanks,
Leonard
