| After much back and forth, I finally decided on the aftermarket RES install for my 04 MDX. I went with 5.8 Starvision screens in the factory headrests and audiovox VCR under the passenger seat. Also included are a Clarion IR repeater to be used with Audiovox wireless headphones and Audiovox RF modulator to so the video sound can be played through the factory stereo system. I used a guy in Long Island, NY who has many years of experience in auto audio/visual installations to handle this install. It took all day but I'm very happy so far - and the wife and kids are ecstatic. |

The monitors came in a box marked PIXELON model # TM-585. Apparently PIXELON is made by STARVISION or vice-versa.
One pic I forgot to take is of the composite ports (yellow, red and white) that I had installed in the side of the passenger footwell below the gear shift column. When we want DVDs, I use my portable DVD player and plug the output cables into the ports. Reasons I did it this way are as follows:
1 - my wife can see the DVD menu on the portable in the front and navigate it for the kids in the back.
2 - I had the VCR from a previous mobile video setup in a 98 4runner and didn't want to waste it.
3 - We have LOTS of kids tapes and my wife likes being able to make her own video tapes and put up to 8 hours of shows on the tape. Until I get on the DVD-burning kick, this is the only way to do it. |

I already had the VCR and RF modulator. Under normal circumstances, the price for the screens and everthing else with installation would have been around $1100, but I give him a lot of business and did a lot of whining, begging, and crying broke so he did better for me. He also tinted my front windows and windshield strip.
Labor - you have 6.5 screens, correct? Did you use the factory headrests? These 5.8s just BARELY fit in my headrests. Also, do you have headrest covers for security? I can't find them sold anywhere! |

Cervan,
Nice price on the install. THe monitors are 6.8" and I did have them cut into the factory headrests. I did buy a second pair of fronts for $50 from Ebay incase I was going to transport to have it removed.
As for the covers, if you can find any, let me know because I can't find covers either. Streeteffectz told me they could have them ordered but I didn't have a chance to go back to them. |

Nice install!
If anyone finds the security covers I'd be interested also. |

| Which shop on Long Island did you use? I'm considering the upgrade myself and I'm on the island. The system looks great! |

| Paul - drop me a message with your e-mail and I'll send you the info. He operates out of Franklin Square, LI. He usually uses his buddy's shop to do his installs. As a reference, he's got at least 10-15 years experience in this stuff, lots of his work shows up in car stereo contests and shows, he has worked on my past 5 cars, my parents cars, all my friends cars. He does alarms, stereo, mobile video, and he is the best window-tinter I've come across. And most importantly, his prices are reasonable. |

| Has anyone installed headrest monitors with factory RES? The drop down screen is driving me nuts by blocking my rearview mirror! |

njnetsfan,
I am looking at doing it. I think I can tap into the outs from the DVD player, put in some RCA plugs, add a video amp and run 3 monitors. Should be an interesting project. The first step is to tap into the outs and see if I can send video to the monitor from an external source as well as have the DVD player play to a normal tv. If that works, I should be able to add the monitors but we'll see.:D |
