| Hey guys, when you were done changing the atf (drain and fill) and started the engine, did you get a VTM light and a CEL light? THanks! |

| Those two lights are usually a sign of EGR valve or Idle Air Control problems, especially if the Check Engine comes on immediately and the VTM-4 comes on several seconds later. |

dang I feel stupid... when breaking the filler bolt on top of the tranny, my extension bars jolted so hard that it hit a nearby plug leading to the intake manifold and disconnected it. so yea that plug, watever it is, was causing both lights to come on.
btw, at 16800 miles, the atf was a fairly reddish color. A 2x flush seemed sufficient. thanks for ur help! |

At least it did not break anything! Sounds like that is in area of the EGR and IAC. Score a big one for frostyra! :7: |

Hey guys
I was wondering what type of ATF's do you guys use. Can you name some common brands eg. Valvoline TransMax Z or Castrol etc. I know there are a variety of types that affects the shift quality and rubber seals etc.
I don't want to buy it from Honda because they are rip-offs. Besides they don't own a refinery anyway, so they outsource to a third-party lube company and just stick the Honda label on the ATF bottle.
Thanks. |

Yes, Redline's good stuff, but haven't heard of anyone using it in an X yet (?).
I found Honda/Acura ATF from drivewire.com for $4.32/qt. One of the few places that ships ATF (free shipping over $50). Of course, shipping to Australia might be a stretch.

So far, Amsoil is the only alternative ATF fluid that specifically states it is an equivalent for "Honda Z-1 ATF".
Others might say they cover all Honda/Acura ATF.
Personally, I am just sticking with the Honda stuff. |
