All,

Thought it might be interesting to have a thread on pre-owned & certified MDX purchase experiences. Thanks to this board, I felt very educated about the MDX and recently purchased an 01 MDX for my wife.

What do you think about this deal? I just bought an Acura certified 01 Touring w/Nav with 32,900 miles. I paid $27.5K and added running boards for $500. The vehicle includes bumper to bumper Acura warranty for 2 years/30K miles and 7year/100K power train warranty. The dealer also agreed to provide updated Nav software once it is released in Feb. Also got 4.84% interest.

I have not purchased a used vehicle before, but I am hopeful this is a reliable purchase with minimal repairs. In light of the powertrain warranty to 100K, would you bother with an extended waranty? My credit union offers a third party warranty that runs about $1400/0 deduct and is fully refundable if no claims are ever filed. I plan to keep this SUV for 5 years and drive about 15K miles a year.

Since you got Nav, you may want to consider adding to the warranty. 1400 is not bad for a bumper to bumper but you already have one for 100K on the powertrain which is most important.
Make sure the warranty they gave you is a FULL warranty on the drivetrain. Since it is from Acura, I would expect it to be.

Because some do have exclusions, or limits on labor, or rental car remibursement, etc. So read over carefully what you really have for protection then decide if you want to buy more. It would be nice to cover the electronics, esp. powertrain computers, etc. Check and see if those are included only under the bumper to bumper.

Just things to think about. But otherwise sounds like a fair deal. I take it the interior and paint are still like new...it does not cost much to run a Carfax on the VIN find out exactly how many owners it did have....just a thought. It is certified..but...it's also your money.

Thanks for your thoughts. Unfortunately Nav is not included in credit union warranty. So I am not sure whether adding the warranty is worthwhile. I like the idea of getting a refund if it goes unused...otherwise I would lean heavily toward Acura extended care. Just not sure if a warranty is over insuring.

Dealer gave me carfax and car only had one owner...it was a lease return. Paint and interior are in great shape. I saw vehicle before recondition process and there were a few dings which were removed.

I think you should do fine then! Yup, you could be investing that extra warranty money, or using it for some nice on the road vacations! Congrats!

I'm sure a CPO MDX would be just fine. :welcome:

BTW, you have a very familiar name.
