i don't feel like spending the $ for HID's so i'm going to just upgrade my bulbs.i want something that looks as close to HID's as possible. i may be wrong but i think HID's are rated around 10K. PIAA superwhites are only around 4300. and the hoen xenonmatch plus which i'm leaning towards, i don't know the kelvin rating. does anyone know the rating of this bulb. to me HID's look more purplish/white opposed to upgraded bulbs which look bluish/white.
- will the xenonmatch plus get me as close as possible to an HID look? basically which bulb has the hightest kelvin rating? |

ACX,
All OEM HIDs are around 4100K. The purplish hue you are noticing comes from the projector housing. OEM HIDs cast a very white light on the road. If you go with higher K values, you may get the look you are after, but the light on the road will be blue (which can be more fatiguing to the eyes). Good luck. |

| thanks for clearing that up. so am i correct in assuming that when u look at the headlights head on u will see white w/ a hint of purple or blue but the road will just be lit up white? i want a bulb that will make me look like i have xenons when i'm driving toward u. will the hoen xenonmatch do that? |

ACX,
Yes, you are correct. The light is white on the road.
I kind of went through this same process (HID vs HID-like bulbs). I have a TL with HID and I love them. I knew that the HID-like bulbs might give me the look but not the performance so I went with an HID kit. If you figure you will spend between $70-$100 a year for these wannebee bulbs (they blowout fast), the HIDs are really a no-brainer. You will get more light and the bulbs should last the life of the car. Good luck with whatever choice you make. You may want to try this forum to answer some questions. |

Hoen's are 4,000k and if they fail they replace them up to 1 year.
Cheaper bulbs fail all the time but don't get that confused with quality bulbs like PIAA, Hoen etc.
Hoen have a new 9006 that is also 70w and 4,200k or so too. |

| I've bought PIAA for years now ! Reliable and last long. PIAA 9006 will do the trick. Avoid RICE bulbs, as they burn out often.....;) |

| Avoid Hiper and Nokya. I have Hiper bulbs blew up on my Accord once. It is impossible to clean the filament and the broken glasses inside the headlight housing. |

PIAA sold in the USA are quality bulbs IMO. The PIAA stuff you can import from Japan is quite ricey though with blue output, purple output, you name it.
Avoid ebay for any lighting purchases and yes avoid Hiper, Hyper (and any other way they spell it), Nokya and super plasma this and that. I guess if the name sounds flashy I would avoid it but thats just me. Im happy with the Hoen products as are many on this board.
Another good bulb is MTEC based on what I have read but they are expensive. |

Those PIAAs still look pretty yellow next to the HID (at least "on the road")! |
