I know full well this might be just spittin' into the wind but what about it?
Perhaps we can plan it for 2005. . . you're ideas and suggestions.
I'd think we'd need at least the following:
1. Location.
2. Date.
3. Ideas for activities and/or forums to be held.
4. Appoint an organizer and various committees.
5. Request sponsorships and/or advertisers.
6. Determine costs to members.
I'd love it just to be able to see every person on this board. |
|
|
| MDteX |
Sounds like a great idea!
1. Location. -- Obviously the central US makes the most sense.
2. Date. -- Summertime so the kids could come along.
3. Ideas for activities and/or forums to be held. -- A Zaino shine-off?
4. Appoint an organizer and various committees. -- Thanks laborlitigator for volunteering!
5. Request sponsorships and/or advertisers. -- Tim? Admin? Acura?
6. Determine costs to members. -- Tim? Admin? :2:
No matter what date is selected it will be a conflict for some. Maybe we could get some Acura representation at this tailgate party.
Sounds like a good time! :7: |

I'll second MDXXXX on the Bellagio but I wonder what the cost would be.
As for date: I'll throw out the first weekend in August 2005. |

| I think the cheapest Bellagio room is $350-$400 (yikes!!). Excalibur or that Spinx/pyramid hotel (forgot the name) is fine 4 me as long as its in the strip. |

I like New Orleans or Atlanta Any takers?
Las Vegas would be fun but i'll only be 20 :( |

You don't want Excalibur. I was there in November of last year and the ventilation system can't handle the cigarette smoke. We could even smell traces in our non-smoking room.
To be fair, Excalibur is one of the "oldest" on The Strip.
Mandalay Bay and The Luxor are adjacent properties connected to Excalibur by a tram that are nicer and newer.
Yep. Bellagio is expensive. Their water fountain show is pretty cool. I know a fellow who got a $75 a night deal at The Venetian (midweek) off of Priceline.com. |

This "get-together " stuff is great!...but we need a more centralized location. Las Vegas is nice...but are we going there for the gambling or are we gathering for a MDX "love-in"?
The suggestion for Atlanta or New Orleans seems to be on target....centralized with a good mix of "other" activities...

| having spent some time in Las Vegas people who aren't used to the heat that time of year might not be very comfortable. High temps that time of year can easily top 110 degrees. I like the Vegas idea(right, LL) but just trying to think of the group as a whole. The first week of August sounds great because my birthday falls during that week. |

| How many people are we looking to get together? About 50 you think? Lets see how many people we can get in and then we'll determine how big of a place we need |

Since location is an issue (and I am not able to redo this thread) I'll start a new thread polling the location for the proposed AcuraMDX convention.
Let's close the polling after 120 days. . . |
|
|
| laborlitigator |
Your vote counts.
If you have another location you'd like to suggest, let me know and I'll add it to the poll.
If a location is added that you want to change your vote to, also let me know. However, do such through the thread and not a PM since I don't want to be accused of doctoring the results.
THE POLL WILL EXPIRE AFTER 120 DAYS. |

Vegas in August is hot, very hot. So is New Orleans and it has more humidity. Denver or the surrounding area like Breckenridge or Vail is very nice and beautiful in the summer. And Colorado is the #1 micro brewery in the country! :7: Obviously several members may show up via air and not bring their beloved MDX with them due to the distance.
I vote for the Rockies!!! :29:
And why 2005? August or September is still 8 months away. Why not this year? |

Tex makes some valid points. Why not this year? We should be able to settle on a place soon(maybe 30-45 days). Then we can find luxurious accomidations for the group. Plan a few events and what do you know? We have a meet to end all meets.:4:
I know I've over simplfied things but with all the bright minds on this board we should be able to pull this thing together for an 04 date. |

Well it only makes sense to pick a central location, that is, about the same distance from the east and west coasts. It has to be a cool place, with lots of night-life.
That means TEXAS.
Dallas is always hoppin' in the summertime, and the West End/Lower Greenville/Deep Ellum areas are sure to have all the night life anyone would want.
Ohwell.... I guess I'm prejudiced......but at least no one will have to go TOO far....only half way across the country instead of ALL the way.....!!!!!:2: |

On second thought Vegas is going to be extremly HOT in August. Are you sure you want to combine a city in the desert and the hottest month of summer together? Rooms might be cheap though.
Personally, I like the Hard Rock Hotel. A little bit off the strip (which is nice) and it's a 'cozy' hotel. Great central bar for us to all meet in and go from there...

Here's an out of the box thought- How about two separate ones. that way each coast can have one, more people can drive and you will have more vehicles. Very few people would drive more than 1-2 days, so if there is only one you are going to have a lot of fly-ins. There have been a lot of regional meets, now take the next step and do a east-west meet. Think of the competitions you could have- most of each color, best accessories, etc.
Start smaller, then work up to a national one. |

Memphis or St. Louis are considered the central US. If we go to Memphis maybe Elvis would stop by.
The east coast/west coast might work but I think if you do that you need to do a central US also. This is a big country. With the regionalized meets you don't get to meet as many people but the meet will have more MDXs, and obviously, with the national meet you may get to meet more people but have fewer MDXs due to the fly-ins. Like almost everything else in life there are trade-offs and compromises.
Harleys, BMWs, Corvettes, Mini-Coopers, etc all have national meets (not really sure about the Coopers but I thought I would throw that in :D ) and they attract people from the entire country. There's no reason to think we can't do the same. :7: |

Yes putting a face behind the name would be great. If you think about it everyone has an MDX so seeing everyone else's is not a requirement but would be fun. People can bring pictures!

Everyone made me hula with the dancers, it was awesome as you might expect. I told them that I focused on the hips of the hula girl in front of me and just let it flow.

Hi All:
___Does anyone recognize this particular point of interest? Pop in 1060 W. Addison – Chicago, IL. in your NAVI equipped X’s for its actual location ;)

___Or this one down in the Phoenix area in early spring?

___I was at a Brewers vs. Cubs game at Milwaukee’s own Miller Park last year and not only was it the best ball park I have ever visited, there was a Mini Cooper rally with maybe 100 Mini’s from all over the Midwest. This place makes Wrigley look like a dump! Sorry I couldn’t find some decent pic’s in my 10 minutes on the web … Never mind, here are some decent pics.
Inside! Sorry about the ad but it is the best pic I have seen yet …

Exterior:

The infamous Sausage Race and Polish Won!

___Did I mention Renov8r is a barbeque master? With a little persuasion, I am sure he would love to make a day of it ;) Heck, if you are in the area, this thread might be of interest.
___Since St. Louis is the ~ center of the country, everyone might consider a location near there? August heat can be a bit overwhelming vs. the Lake affected and more moderate temperatures we see up north a ways …
___The World famous St. Louis Gateway Arch is an attraction most should see up close at least once in their lives. The view from the top is pretty amazing considering its location. Its construction and architecture make it a true national treasure …

___I like Branson, MO. as well … On the way, you have to stop in at Lambert’s “Home of Throwed Roll’s” off I-55 from the North in Sikeston. It might just change your outlook on what family dining is all about and how you can help others just by stopping in for a good meal while out on the open road.

___The best time we had at Branson was renting a speed boat at Table Rock Lake for a 4 hour tour … We were only at Branson for a day and a half so we did not do much in the way of a show anywhere near downtown :(
___Another consideration on the East Coast would be any of the great Beach House rentals and scenery along the Outer Banks in NC. The many lighthouses, tours of such, and miles of pristine beaches are a great attraction. You do have to worry about Hurricane season however :(

____Since I am also an aircraft nut, the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, NC. is the Holy Grail of US technological achievement and located within the Outer Banks.
___Whenever I think of California, I can’t keep a restaurant out of my mind as far as the best Clam Chowder I have ever tasted … Although I am not a fan of Clam Chowder, this is the cats meow as far as I was concerned. It not only beats the many restaurants along Fisherman’s Wharf in San Fran as far as quality and delightful ambiance, its unique history is exotically eerie! Look up its history sometime to see what I mean. It’s name? Why it is called Moss Beach Distillery of course. It is located in Half Moon Bay, California. Excellent, just simply excellent.
Ocean and location view from the side:

___Everything listed above except for the sites and sounds of California is just a long days drive from me … within 1,200 miles that is ;)
___Good Luck

Even though Hawaii would be nice, not many would show up. Not me, unless you are having it the middle of July since I will be in Kauai for vacation.
If we can stick to the realistic view that it makes the most sense to be in the central US which allows folks from both coasts to attend without a major drive/fly issue then we may make progress on this. Otherwise we are just wasting server space and bandwidth.
To make it the most economical and convienent we should pick a place that has easy and frequent airline service with reasonable fares. I'm still up for Vail or Breckenridge Colorado, beautiful and very pleasant in the summer. Lots of golf courses and breweries. :7: And you talk about some nice pics for the gallery and homepage.... :29: |

If you are thinking Texas and even though San Antonio is a great place to visit you may want to consider Dallas due to it being a major airline hub. There are few fights that go direct to San Antonio from the rest of the country.
And I thought the R&R HoF was in Cleveland??? They need something up there to attract people! :D |

Keeping on the central location theme, how about St. Louis, Dallas or Houston?
I think a big city like those listed gives us the best options regarding things to do and events. However, if we can find a splendid resort in a scenic area that would be really fun, too.
From the posts it seems as though a central location for the venue will offer the best chance for a larger turnout.
I still voted for Hawaii, dare to dream, right?:1: |
