Did you mean for "tax purposes" or in Texas?? In Texas small pickups w/ 4 tiny wheels get the Truck license plate. |

| Just picked up my new MDX last night. The dealer installed BSMs were pointed down. I did not specify which way to install them. Looks right to me. |

| Some have stated in this thread that no one has BSM pointing DOWN except Acura - not anymore  |

| I liked the look of the BSM's up but noticed that they didn't line up right with the door so I ended up installing them down. I pointed this out to my buddy who also installed them a week earlier and he had a heck of a time pulling them off. He heated the adhesive to ensure a good stick but I'm not sure if it was worth changing. Follow the stamps on the back (it confussed me at first). |

I am here to resolve this silly little dispute over BSM's- Up or Down? :p
I thought I'd be revolutionary, and install them Up, which is against Acura specs. I like being anti-establishment.
But the asymetrical profile of the BSM's causes light to reflect off the front and rear differently if you install them Up. The front BSM looks light, and the rear looks dark in many photos, when the fronts are Up. It's not objectionable in person, when you or the MDX is moving; it does screw up photos. See my Gallery for your own opinion.
So, I sawed off the front, per the 3M instructions, with knotted 20 lb monofilament line. (the new 3M tapes eat right through dental floss or 15 pound line)
Only problem: the monofilament line sawed into the BSM plastic, ruining it.
$183 US dollars later, and I'll be installing the new set of BSM "Factory Down" this weekend.
Maybe I can get to like the Establishment. |
