I just replaced the cabin filter, at 22K. Recommended interval is 30K. I think 20K is almost too long. Never a smoker in this car. And replacing it is a PITA.

 That's kind of scary. Makes you realize how dirty our air is.

Dale, mine has been done by both Honda and Acura dealers; I've had it done every 15K. I think the first change is the worst (according to the service manual); after that, it looks to be relatively easy.

Removing the temporary plastic bracket the first time is probably 20% of the job. 15K is probably a more appropriate interval.

The charcoal in the filter makes it look dirtier than it is though.

Is there a separate charcoal filter that is not removable? Or charcoal inside this one. It is white on both sides when new.

Mine looked similar to DaleB's, and I'm pretty sure it didn't have anything to do with 'charcoal'. As Dale points out, the filter is a very clean white pre-installation.

Also, as far as installation, the glove box removal/attachment was the toughest part IMO...

Q: Can anyone post a link that gives step-by-step instructions on how to change the Pollen Filter?

Hey Ex,

Norcalchuck posted some rudimentary instructions here. When you can, you really should consider getting the Service Manual--definitely worth the $$.

Robyjo ,

What kind of filter are you using? The ones I've used are a dark grey color when brand new due to the charcoal in it. Or I may be thinking of an accord filter.

These look like an ordinary paper filter, ordered directly through a dealer (Hondacuraworld.com). Charcoal may not be a bad idea, actually. I wonder if the Accord filter is the same size.

I know I would pay a premium for such a filter...

No, the accord filters dont fit... they use 2 smaller filters instead of one large one. There are aftermarket charcoal filters for the accords, but I dont show a listing for the MDX's yet.

Time to change my pollen filter out again--anyone know of an aftermarket charcoal filter available for the X?
