I have been reading this forum for about a year now, and have found it very helpful for a variety of reasons. I have not posted before because I really didn't have anything to say. However, I wanted to share our recent MDX experience with the group.
Ten days ago my MDX (2003 Touring with Nav and DVD, 15,000 miles) was totaled. An oncoming driver lost control and hit us broadside on the drivers side. We slide across the highway and hit a telephone pole right on the front passenger door.
My family (wife and two children) walked away without a scratch. I suffered a burn on my right wrist from the airbag. The other driver suffered some hand injuries, but walked away as well.
In the aftermath of the accident, I kept catching myself feeling very happy that the car was totaled, and we were not. The next business day after the accident, we went into our dealer and placed an order for a new 2004. We're going to try white this time. |

Holy cats, what a story! Sent shivers down my neck.
Good to know everyone is okay--and glad to hear how the X made a difference. It earned it's safety rating that day! |

| Glad you and your wife and children are safe. That is one of reasons we got our MDX as well. Keep us updated. Hey don't forget to give your wife and kids a extra tight hug. :4: |

| I had my digital camera with us because we were planning on going skiing that day. Needless to say we did not get to the slopes (only about 10 miles to go). |

Glad everyone is OK; safety concerns is a big reason we chose MDX as well. By the way you'll love the '04:1: |

| Wow!!! Kind of surprised the insurance company totaled it. What was the estimate to have it fixed or did they even provide that?? |

Whew.... :6: What a way to start a year. Thank god everyone is fine.
The X looks pretty banged up, but it being relatively new, why was it totaled? Is there more than the eye can see?
If you don't mind, lets keep track of the VIN and see what CarFax logs, ok? |

Glad everyone came out OK!
It's wierd to see that LF door skinned like that. It's also strage they totalled it unless there is damage you can't see from the pictures. Guess given a choice between repairs and a new 04, I'd get the 04 as well. |

Yeah, we were not sure if it was going to be declared totaled or not. The impact was pretty hard. All of the airbags went off. And the estimator was saying that every seatbelt in use would have to be replaced.
The driver door panel came off during the initial collision (I remember aftterwards seeing it up the road a-ways).
We're still waiting to hear what value the insurance company will assign. It wasn't even a year old yet. |

eapplegate,
Glad you and your family are safe. When I began to read your post my first impression was that you hated your MDX and was happy it was totaled. My bad. :1pat: |

| Hard to tell from the pics but you could also have a bent frame or a bent axel. (It looks like the front driver's side tire is bent. |

| Did you breakout the Zaino after the crash? Check out that hood shine. Seriously, your experience is exactly why we shell-out the big bucks for crash worthy cars. Buckle-up and keep the shiny side up. Looking forward to your 04 pics. |

| eapplegate, I'm glad you and yours are OK. After your description of the banging you took, I'd get checked out myself. The car is secondary to you and your family of course, but enjoy the new one. |

You are very lucky. Count your blessings that you and your loved one "walked" away from that. Another 5 feet would have been a whole lot worse. That's why when I drive especially on roads with no divider, I always try to stay right.
Have fun with the 04 and stay out of the fast lane. |
