Ahh my first post here!
We brought home our new baby for our new baby:
04 MDX Touring/Navi/RES, Silver exterior, black interior.
We got it for $1500 over invoice and negotiated some accessories for online prices (i.e., matched hondacuraworld)
Drove like a beauty home, honestly I tried to hear the resonance noise but couldn't pick it up. I test drove another one last weekend and didn't pick it up then either.
So some questions:
-side steps: we are looking into the satin chrome OEM sidesteps. How do they look? If you purchased them are you happy with them?
-extended warranty: your thoughts? i was quoted a tad under 1700 for it. Didn't know if it was worth getting now...or if i should wait it out.
-initial waxing or sealing: I've been a Klasse user before and have read some things on Zaino as well. Any suggestions as to what initial sealants or protectants to use for the exterior?
-body side molding: don't have it, had to ask...I've seen many debates going back n forth about this. Knowing me I'd probably wait till my first ding before I get it!
-driver window wet on the inside? It was raining yesterday and we were going in and out of the car a lot, so I don't think it's attributed to any defect per se. Just wanted to throw it out there because I coulda sworn I saw somethin on it....
Thanks, great forum!

First welcome to the board and congrats!:1:
Second, we do not hear any resonance either (I'm beginning to be very suspect of that whole thread)
Third, we prefer the Satin chrome steps, due to the other satin trim on the car. Order the steps from Tim.
Re: Warranty, it is somewhat becasue of the extended warranty question that led to our trading the '01 for the '04:D http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...&threadid=15073
I recommend BSM, and again order from Tim (my BSM and Step order will go in any day now). |

:welcome: and congrats. The 04 MDX has a mix of Satin and Chrome. I went with the Chrome sidesteps since they are on the side (hence the name) and match the chrome handles. The satin is in the front and rear. There seems to be alot of Zaino supporters on this site, so with that many I would assume it is good stuff.
Good luck and....:needpics: |

Congrats and Welcome!!!
I have an 04 X Silver/Quartz Res/Nav
I was contemplating getting the BSM as well and then saw a pic posted on one of threads and had them installed. It really makes the truck look great. I would recommend them more for aesthetics than for preventing dings. Only cost me $200 installed.
Good Luck. |

It may be a good idea to put on the BSM's before the initial waxing for better adhesion.
I think the wider moldings offered at hondaacuraworld.com look better and offer more protection than the regular moldings:
Acura MDX Wide Bodyside Moulding
Code: 08P05-S3V-200A
Price: $167.70

The wide BSM are Acura OEM for the new '04 model, the thinner BSM are Acura OEM for model years '02 / '03. Technically there is no OEM for the '01 MDX, although for some '01 colors BSM is available (both thin and wide). Also for some '02 / '03 MDX colors the wide BSM will work. |

Yes, I do like the wider body side moldings, it's convincing the significant other. She hates it when I keep adding things, lowering things, etc! Anyway thanks for all the responses!
-I'll be ording my satin chrome steps today (who's Tim that I should buy from?)
-any local people in the bay area, CA recommended to install body side molding? I could probably do it myself, although for 20-40 bux I wouldn't mind paying someone a lil more experienced to do it.
I will be posting pics, I was thinkin about washing/waxing before the fotoshoot (it was raining when we picked up the car).
Thanks! |

Offer her a choice of new things to add; BSM or door dings;) |

I just may use that!
How was the color match on the BSM? |

I do not have them yet, will order on Monday along with steps. As for color match they are Acura OEM moldings and should be a perfect match on a new car. I added the OEM '02 thin molding to an '01 and the match (Mahogany) was perfect even a year later. Color match should not be a problem and is in fact guaranteed I believe. |

:welcome: and congratulations, alienman.... I recommend getting the extended warranty now, shop around, you should be able to get a better deal than $1700...

Thanks! Where would I start to shop around for this? I'm guessing there are also third party providers who offer the service as well?
The only reason I may not get the warranty is if I end up tweaking with the car (i.e., decide to add the add on tv, etc. etc.). |

As usual start with SEARCH, lots of recent thread activity regarding extended warranty. Two that come to mind are a recent bankruptcy of a major third party vendor (I recommend Acura) and the recent (December) group buy from Tim. The group buy may have expired, but could be repated some time later??? |

Congrats, and welcome. My comments:
-Glad you don't have the drone; IT IS A REAL PROBLEM, but a fix has been found (just waiting for a TSB), so no problemo.
-no BSMs here (looks better IMO), and no dings yet. Would put them in case wifey gets tired of parking a mile away at the grocery store, and the dings ensue.
-Black side steps here; much more inconspicuous. I don't consider them remotely beautiful, and they get DIRTY big time, so black was our choice. The only reason my wife wanted them is because they look better than the darn frame with the emergency brake wires hanging down.
-We immediately put the fender flares as well; X looks awfully wimpy and plain without them. Bigger wheels/tires would help too.
- No need to buy extended warranty now; why pay 4 years in advance? You might not even have the car by then.
Congrats on your other baby too. Later.

Sorry I missed this part of your post earlier; since you'd refered to hondacuraworld in you first post I'd assumed you know that Tim was hondacuraworld:1:
That is Tim's userid on the board as well - he is the source for parts/accessories as I think you've already figured out. |

| Two questions: why'd you change your userid? and does the new ironchef id relate to the Food Channel show? |
|
|
| ironchef |
a) wanted my userid to match others I use on different sites. 'alien' was an old school nickname.
b) yes that refers to a show on the food network.
but no, i have no cooking talent whatsoever... |
