| I found a 16" steel wheel with positive offset for $46 at a local tire shop (haven't bought it yet). I'm thinking to put 235/70/16 tires on it and use it as a full size spare. Doesn't really makes sense to me to buy a brand new factory wheel as a spare ($200 for wheel + $100-150 for new tire = $300-350 for spare?), unless you're thinking of doing a 5 tire rotation (I'm not, too much work). Any one thought about this? Hope this hasn't been posted already - couldn't find in under search. |

Nothing wrong with it. Doing a 5 tire rotation is not that big a deal.
And since you wont be saving a std. MDX tire to use with the next set of tires you buy, that spare should provide you service for a long, long time. And it beats the dickens out of a donut! Not sure how much more weight is there, since the wheel is a smaller diameter, may not make that much difference  |

If you're a little patient, a new (or very barely used) tire will be offered for sale and alloys are now commonly available at used-part recyclers. I got a new Cross-Terrain for $50 and a 2001 touring wheel for $100 with a small scratch--and some X wheels were $75.
What's best about having an exact match as a spare is that I won't need to be in any hurry to replace it if a tire goes out. Also, a 235/70/16 might be close, but I don't know how long I'd want to drive on it. If I'm on a long trip, there's the peace of mind of having a FSS in the first place. |

What he said. You really can't beat a real FSS. When you think about safety and security, it's well worth the monetary investment.:4: |

| well, the thing about "real" full-size spare is that I just bought aftermarket wheels (19"). So it'd be like having a 17" spare with 19" stock. It'd be ridiculous to have 2 separate spares for the two sets of wheels I have (I'll be using the stock 17" for snow tires)...I think I'll just go with the 16". 235/70/16 is very close to stock size btw. |

You did not mention having aftermarket wheels and tires in your opening post. For a FSS, do what you think is best.:4: |

Re: 2004 MDX Michelin Cross Terrain and Wheel.
What is the lowest price I should try to get the dealer to sell it to me for?
It would be nice to have it already installed when I take delivery.
They have not given me a quote yet.
Tire Rack sells the Cross Terrain for $126 + shipping, but not the Acura Wheel.
Hondacuraworld is $159 for the tire + $200 for the wheel (not sure if shipping is free on these items). |

Tim's pricing at HondacuraWorld includes shipping.
When we bought our FSS, simply ordered wheel and tire from Tim. It was not worth the hassle to use multiple suppliers and you really wouldn't save much = $33 - shipping.
If you really want to save money, simply wait for someone to sell theirs (a number of MDX owners replace their wheels/tires with larger diameter wheels).
You can watch Ebay or the classifieds on this board. |

| I have an '04 X. If I decided to purchase a full size spare, will it show from the back of the car or will it be hidden from view? |

| The profile of the revamped '04 rear bumper cover makes it look like a full size spare SHOULD be there. |

No I threw the box away, but it was the regular Pep Boys box, I don't think they sell more than one (just different sizes). I'm fairly sure I got the Large. The bow was marked $14.99, but it rang up for $9.99  :1: I think it was DaleB who originally pointed out the Pep Boys brand. Try a Search on Pep Boys cover. |

I may have, I don't even remember now. But bought mine online at some rv website. I believe it has to fit at least a 29" diameter wheel/tire. Some list tires sizes, but you need the equivalent. 235/65x17 is just not that common to be referenced everywhere.
Best thing is just measure yourself and get one that fits. Large will fit I'm sure. Better if it's a little baggy or it's hard to get on. |
