I really didn't know this was an issue with the MDX until I started reading this board again about a month back. I did notice slight bucking and stuttering on certain shifts and specially when coasting. Anyhow, took it into the dealer to checkout a few things and also mentioned the stuttering.

Got a call today that said they needed to replace the tranny and I'd be using the loaner for 1-2 weeks.

MY01, 48.5k.

On the bright side (for me at least), it's a lease that's up in 3 weeks. So basically I get a free car to use that I can put miles on, and not go over any more miles on the MDX.

Good luck to everyone!

my '01 has 43k miles on it and when i mentioned the stuttering to the dealer, they said that they couldn't reproduce it. It happens randomly, so I'm afraid i'll hit 50k then have it go out completely. Any suggestions?

If you feel it acting up again, FLOOR IT! Stomp on the gas every chance you get, then hope the code comes up at the dealer before 50k.;)

to be honest, i havn't felt it sputter for the past 3k miles or so, even though before that i felt it at least 7-8 times. do you think that it could have possibly been a fluke, or is it doomed to fail sooner or later?

I don't know about your situation, but I have felt a very slight difference in my '01 (28k).
Despite all the transmission stories, my experience has been great till recently. Normally all shifts both up and down have been soooo smooth, you can't feel them. Once in a while it seems to me that between 20 and 40 MPH, there is a slight double shudder/jerk if I take my foot off the gas as when approaching a red light. Can't say that this happens all the time and even when it does it is ever so slight.

Just a quick update. After the inital diagnosis of a new tranny, they changed it to a Linear Solenoid replacement. I drove it this weekend, and the check engine and VTM-4 lights came on again. I'll be bringing it in again this week...

Did you bring the X in initially because the CEL/VTM-4 lights came on...or was there a performance issue with your tranny, or both?

In the past week, my CEL and VTM-4 lights have been intermittently coming on and going away. I have a buddy with a diagnostic computer, but I have to drive about 2 hours to get to his shop....havent had the chance yet.

Trying to figure out what the deal is with these pesky lights. Hoping it is not detrimental to drive while the malfunction exists. Any feedback would be appreciated (note: no noticeable performance issues)

both. the lights were going on and off intermittently, and the mdx felt like it had a slight stuttering/bucking when shifting ~40mph and 60mph.

here's a good time for an update as well.

they replaced the linear solenoid. the check eng lights came back on a day later. i played phone tag with the dealer for the last week. My lease is up in 2 days. I'm not going to worry about it.

good luck everyone.

Many of us who have had Check Engine and VTM-4 lights on, found that the problem was a bad EGR valve; once mine was replaced under warranty, no more "stuttering."
