I have the chance of getting some snows at a size of 255/55/16. I know that the wider is not necessarily better for deep snow. But the question is whether these will fit with the appropriate rims (thinking of getting steel rims).
Will rubbing be a factor? What bolt pattern and offset steel rim should I be looking for?
So many questions...
TIA,

They will not fit. The outer diameter of 255/55/16 will be whole 2 inches smaller than your stock setup (27" vs 29"). This will really screw up your speedometer. If you want to go 16" for snow tires, you will need to get 235/70/16 for proper fit. Go to tirerack.com and look up what fits for your MDX. You need to get 5 bolt pattern (5x114.3) with positive offset of 45mm. Good luck.

Sorry, my bad. I meant 255/65/16. There's only .1% difference between the stock size and this one.
Knew about the Miata.net calculator as our other car is a Miata! Now talk about a car with aftermarket accessories! Superchargers, turbos, bodykits...

You also need to be sure that 16" rims clear the disk brake calipers. Usually when a manufacturer installs a certain size rim there is a reason. As the brakes go bigger for better braking the wheel size also needs to go bigger. If it just barely clears that probably is not good - cooling of brakes might suffer.

Good point. I have a 16" steel rim for a spare tire, and it just barely clears the brake caliper on the fronts. Rear will not be a problem because calipers are smaller in the rear. If you do get a 16" steel rims, make sure they fit first. Calipers won't rub around the outer rim, but may rub along the side depending on the offset of your wheels. Best bet is to go to tirerack.com and find aftermarket 16" rims that DO fit MDX. They've already installed these rims on MDX and will clear the calipers.
