'02 Transmission Going Down - Click HERE for Original Thread

Well guys I am saddened to say that our 02's tranny is starting to go down hill. Over the last 2 to 3 weeks we have experienced the shuddering and jerking in the tranny consistent with the others descriptions here (only 16k miles!!). I am afraid I will have to jump through all the hoops and fight the dealer tooth and nail before getting satisfaction. That being said I have a couple of questions.

#1 - For those of you who have had your tranny replaced how many miles do you have on the new one and how is it working now?

#2 - How willing/receptive is Acura now days about negotiating a trade on a newer model? Any real incentives or do I need to push the Lemon Law?

#3 - Has anyones transmission TOTALLY failed? Or is this a cop out for them to get a "quick" fix instead of legitimately diagnosing and repairing the problem?

#4 - Any suggestions?

I really dont want to have to fight this with Acura. I was planning a test drive on a BMW this weekend and may just opt to dump the X before any major problems occur.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Yeah I tried to delete it but it wouldnt let me. I thought perhaps if I put transmission in the header I might solicit more responses. I have read through all the threads and really dont see anyone reporting back on the long term reliability of the replaced/remaned tranny. I know for a while this was a HOT topic here and am really surprised that I havent had any responses from members who have had the replacement done.

The thread title comes from the subject line of the first post (thread start post). You can always go back and edit any post you make. Sometimes (and I emphasize sometimes) if you edit the subject line you can edit the thread title. It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't - may be a timing/longevity thing.

I tried that first with no luck then I went to the first post checked the box for delete this thread but I keep getting a message saying I am unauthorized to do this action. I just sent Daniel the thread link and asked for him to delete it for me.

No biggie.

How are you even close to qualifying for lemon laws? It doesn't sound like you've even given the dealer a chance to fix the problem. For most states, it takes three failed attempts at repairing a serious problem in order to fall under the law. (And even then, replacement is not automatic).

As a general rule threads are locked not deleted.

I know I am not at that point YET but I would bet any amount of money it will take them MORE than 3 times to resolve. As I stated in my other thread I have had a few run ins with the Jacksonville Acura service departments. My time is very valuable and I dont feel like dicking around with these service guys every other week.

What I was thinking is I might be able to pressure/convince them to either make me a deal on a '04 and given the history of these tranny problems it would likely work out cheaper for them and less aggravating for me. Or get them to be a little more diligent with their diagnosis of the problem. I am sure I will be given a number of excuses before they will be willing to replace the tranny. My wifes last car had a similar problem and we screwed around with the dealer for almost a year "trying" different fixes that never worked.

I have read up on the lemon law and know what my rights are as well as the dealers. It can get real ugly going down that road but I know a few people have succeeded. I dont really want to go that way but I want to be armed with all available options before I start taking the car to the dealer.

My reason for this thread is to solicit some input from those who have had their transmissions replaced or those who have possibly worked out deals on new vehicles. I know there has been at least a few members on this board who have had it done. But I have yet to see anyone tell us how everything is still going. This is a major component that will likely need to be replaced and truthfully on a 40k car with 17k miles it is TOTALLY unacceptable. If I get the least bit of resistance from Acura I am going to push their back as far against the wall I can legally. Hopefully if I gather enough information beforehand I can avoid dragging this process out longer than it needs to be.
