| Im about to efile and was reviewing the printout and I saw line 21tax preparation fees and saw this particular section of the the SW. Can I claim the price of the SW and the price of efilling to my state? Not much but every little bit helps. 19.95 for SW and 7.95 for the efile for the state. |

| I am not a professional tax preparer so don't take this as gospel. You can include the cost of tax preparation software and it will show up in the "miscellaneous" category if you itemize deductions. But---the total of your micellaneous itemized deductions must exceed a certain percentage of your income before you will benefit---much like the medical itemized deductions. |

Your total "miscellaneous" deductions must exceed 2% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) to be deductible. So if your AGI is $100,000 and you have $2,500 miscellaneous deductions you can deduct $500.
Only the software would be deductible. E-filing expenses are not tax preparation costs. |

| ....and the $s had to be spent last year, so what you spent for preparing your 2002 return might qualify. |

Thats correct, unless you charged it to a credit card. In that case its the date of the charge, not the date paid that determines the period in which the deduction is taken. |
