Initially, I intended to run this in 5-channel mode and amplify all my speakers but the specs are making me reconsider to run it as a 3-channel amp (amplify fronts and sub). I replaced all the 6-1/2's in the X (Kenwood Excelons in front, Infinity's in the rear-still searching for a sub).
Should I eliminate all the Bose amps (front, rear, sub) or should I try to get more power out of the Soundstream amp and continue to use the Bose rear amp? How would you hook this amp in your X and why?
I do know that just because a speaker receives 4 times more power dose not mean it will play 4 times as loud.
I also wanted to reconfirm with those with Navigation who’ve added an amp to their front speakers, that it does NOT affect the voice coming from the speakers. I’ve read conflicting reports on this. If this is indeed the case, I assume the voice from the navigation is fed directly into the Bose head unit. Am I correct? And when the navigation voice comes on, does it attenuate the fronts only or front and subs? |

Emerald,
I have a 3 channel xtant amp and love it (50X2, 200X1). I was having some issues with a Line Out Converter. Before I removed it, I was getting pretty equal output to the 4 main speakers. I really didn't like having that much sound coming from the "filler" rear speakers. After I removed the LOC, the sound was much more what I was expecting. The rears are now truly filler using the Bose rear amp and the sound stage is much more frontal.
Can the Excelons handle 100 watts in the front? If they can, I would go for the 3 channel configuration. Plus you don't have to run as much speaker wire!! Just my $.02.
That should be a hell of an amp! Good luck!
FWIW, I think the formula is 10 times the watts to double the sound (100 watts is twice as loud as 10 watts) but YMMV!:D |

Phins2rt,
Thanks for your suggestions. I may consider running in 3 channel mode. I do have another amp on the side that I could use to power the rear. I was going to use it for the sub but I found this amp instead.
Anybody want to comment on adding an amp with Navigation? |
