XM Commander - poor reception - Click HERE for Original Thread

I just got the XM Commander installed at a local shop using the Blitzsafe. On my old car, I had the Alpine XM setup using the Terk Glass Mount antenna. With my old car, there was only 1 dead spot (where reception would cut out for half a second) on my daily commute.

With the XM Commander, I am getting dead spots / loss of reception all over the place. The shop installed the micro antenna inside the dash. Could this be the problem? Or is it just the quality of the Commander antenna?

Is reception only tied to the antenna, or could it also be the tuner module?

I'm thinking of having the shop install a different antenna to see if that helps.

The antenna inside the dash is DEFINITELY the problem. We do A LOT of XM Commander installs w/ZERO problems.

That's what I figured. I'll be taking it back to the shop for them to move the antenna to the roof.

I was finally able to move the antenna to the top dash area, right next to the windshield wiper sensor. Reception is better and the number of dead spots has reduced.

How were people able to install the antenna on the roof? Where did you run the wires?

I have the XM Commander installed to the left of the rear view mirror. I'll post pics on another thread once I get a chance to take them.
