I don't know, kind of liked the catapult one. Could imagine all kinds of people I'd like to see in that chair. |

I think the one with the monkeys was good, because it knocked the nerdy guy.
The Sprint commercial is getting long in the tooth. The guy in the trenchcoat is due a change.
And the all time classic, the Geico gecko!!! Those have been on so much I totally ignore it. It has become like a test pattern or those 30 second tones of the EBS (emergency broadcast system). |

Halfway down this page if you want to see 'em: http://www.quiznos.com/index.asp
Worm,
That was the one I was trying to think of earlier. It looks like Quiznos hired some second graders to produce their marketing campaign! I guess I just don't get it... |

| Add my vote for Quizno's, those commercials are the most moronic ones I've ever seen. They are worse than those dumb Hertz commercials. |

I have a niece who is a sophomore at Univ. of Virginia. She was with me when the first Quiznos commercial appeared featuring the luny looking SpongMonkeys. She said "Oh my god, the spongmonkeys!" I didn't know what she was talking about so I asked what the h#ll. She said taht the spongmonkeys are well-known on college campuses and they are kind of like cult figures.
Then I remembered the "we like the moon" link on this website and she said it was the same. Apparently, Quiznos is trying to be edgy to go after college-age customers. That is generally not a bad strategy.
I can see where this wouldn't appeal to someone who had never seen these characters. But, now that I have seen the "we like the moon" piece, I can't help liking the commercials. Either way, my wife and I laugh our a$$es off every time one of these commercials comes on. |

| To me, the really dumb commercials are those you remember, but forget which product they are flogging. A good example, the old one with the repeated tag line "Mama mia! Thats some spicy meatballs!" When it was current, everybody loved the commerical, but absolutely did not remember the product. Now, it has been shown over and over as a "great" commercial, but many people still don't know the product. Do you? |

| This is kind of regional but has anyone seen the Qwest commercials? They show these idiots hoping when the phone rings that it is Qwest calling to save them money, yada, yada on their phone bill. |

Not that the commercial was that bad, just that they ran virtually the same commercial with the, "look mom (dad), no new cavities", theme for over 15 years.
These commercials ran in the 60's, 70's, and perhaps into the 80's. I got so sick of them that I have not bought a tube of Crest toothpaste for over 30 years. |

As far as the Quizno's commercials, the local stores all have signs in their windows telling their customers that the airing of those commercials wasn't their choice, they have complained to "corporate", and they hope their customers will understand. The owners were interviewed by the paper and they've had lots of complaints and threats to take business elsewhere.
One thing that customers can "subliminally" imagine is that those sponge monkey things are used as meat in the sandwiches. Hungry now? |

Couldn't agree more, commercials may seem ridiculous, silly, dumb, absurd - but that's exactly what the Ad firms are looking for as long as you remember the product or brand. Kinda like that song you wake up to in the morning and can't get off your mind the rest of the day . . . if you remember the product, the commercial was an absolute success . . .
One of the companies I used to work for had the tag line "Nobody does it like ______ ", however everyone heard or remembered it as "Nobody doesn't like _______" which is a double negative and generally frowned upon in the ad world, but noone really cared to correct it since the brand recall was the real issue . . . |

All the "dumb" commercials above that everyone mentioned - all of you named the product. You may hate the commercial, but it got the message across because you remember the product.
mgtr is correct - the commercials that viewers enjoy & entertain you many times are so good that you focus on the entertainment & forget the product competely. |

Is anyone paying attention anymore to the 2 and 3 car ads in a row in the LA and NYC markets? Great business for the stations, but the car dealers are really flogging the same commercials over and over. |
