I spoke with Alpine ealier today and learned that they started shipping the updated and FIXED Navi update DVD for 01/02 MDXs:

** Alpine started shipping yesterday (02/23/2004).

** The new version is 2.11C.

** There is a backlog (imagine my surprise). If you place an order today, the order will not be shipped until some time in March.

I would appreciate the following from any who do receive the update:

** Please comment on coverage.

** Please comment on features -- any new features, modified features, deleted features. On the new/modified features, comments/observations would be appreciated.

** Please comment on any changes to the User Interface. I would appreciate a description of the change(s) and comments/observations on the changes (e.g. better, worse, etc.).

Thanks in advance

Did you ever order the 2.11b disc????? 2.11c has the bug fixes that were on 2.11b. BTW I have 2.11b with the upgrade disc that they sent out free of charge. If you have areas that were not mapped on the old disc....chances are they are now with the new disc.

Unfortunanly that is a negatory on the added map nfo. This is not a update per se, it is a patch, there is no map or POI nfo. It states on the disc. I just got it today and patch the NAVI

Warzau n hockeyplayer,

You obviously ordered and received the "orginal update" which had a bug. I believe that you initially got 2.11B with the new maps. Later, they shipped you the 2.11C update (fixed the software) and this "special update DVD" did not have maps.

For those, like me, who are going to order, we'll get Version 2.11C which includes the maps n stuff you got with 2.11B AND the software update you received in the "special" 2.11C update for those who had receieved 2.11B.

OK, can you guys now please provide some commentary on the updated "stuff" (maps, features, changes, etc.).

Thanks

How about give me an address that was not in your system and I will see if it is in the new database??? Would that appease you?????? That could reassure you that they have expanded the coverage. There are a few new catagories of POI's but for the most part they have remained the same. The only thing is that they have been updated and there are alot more now. Not sure of the actual amount (4 million????). The map is now displayed in a "verified" and "unverified" manner. The screen will show yellow lines for streets in the unverified areas and the usual black for the verified. There is a new nav voice. It is completely different than the old version but has now grown on me. It is louder than the previous version as well. You will have 2 choices of how you can have the system navigate through unverified areas if your route takes you though or a destination is in one. You can choose the "vector line" or you can have it actually route you to the destination as we always have. With the Vector line, the nav will drop you off at the verified coverage and then draw a line that attaches to your vehicle and to the destination and you have to navigate manually watching the screen and paying attention to the vector line. You will opt to choose the other option which will route just like the older disc. It will announce via the nav voice and the screen that you enter an unverified area. It will also let you know that your route will take you through unverified areas if the mapping has done so. Overall I have found the system a tad slower when it comes to finding POI's. You can get ahead of the computer when scrolling through the POI screens so one has to be patient. It is really not that bad but will be noticable. I am very pleased with the update and I doubt you will find any 01/02 owners who will not be happy. Good luck with you version 2.11c pal.

Oh...one more thing I have noticed is that you can choose which restaurants you want to be displayed on the screen at all times. In the 01/02 version it would display ALL types but now you can choose what types of restaurants will show up on the screen. I thought that was kinda cool.

oh...oh...one more thing too....the system does not keep YAKING when you are driving down the interstate and tell you the "keep straight" at every interchange. I noticed that right off the bat. the old version would drive me crazy to the point that I would program in a destination and than start the system when I was closer to the destination if I had a commute of several miles on the interstate. Not anymore.:)

Is this the update I ordered last November that I was later told would ship "late January" because of bugs n the original release? I also think I was told I would receive it FEDEX next-day delivery for no extra charge. So I should get it tomorrow? :wtf:

Sounds correct. Remember, this is the update that was supposed to be released in the fall of 2002???

I received my DVD NAV update disc today = it is a DVD-ROM labelled 2.11C. The upgrade went without any problems, my address list was not lost, and addresses seem to appear on the correct side of the street. I only did one route today - a local route. The route prior would have taken me on a roundabout route, this route was direct. I did not notice any slow down in calculating the route, but it was a short route (about 10 miles).

Other changes I noticed so far:
1) Searching for PLACES seems faster. Plus the search seems to continue as you are browsing the list - it gives a message that it is searching

2) Navigation voice is a different - I would say a deeper more commanding female voice, like when she says turn right, you had better turn right.

3) The calculated route blue highlight is a marked in blue as before, but the line is wider/bolder

4) The verified on and off selection is there.

5) The temp display has bolder numbers and does not go off when ignition is in ACC mode.

6) More local POI are showing up on searches, but still not the newest places, like the Starbucks 2 miles from the house - This implies the data is at least older than 6 months.

7) A major road completed 6 months ago is still not in the database

I just received my 2.11c disk yesterday. I had ordered it back in January, and was told it would not be shipped until the bugs were fixed.

My neighborhood consisted of a bunch of white dots (it was not yet mapped out, so every time I drove the neighborhood, I had hundreds of flashing dots). It is now in the database. My neighborhood is 2 years old (Vista Del Verde in Yorba Linda California).

I missed the voice of the old Nav. I havent noticed any other major changes yet.

By the way, to settle a dispute with my son, does the Nav say "U Turn is Possible" or "U Turn if Possible". I believe its the first.

Great to see you, Ira! Here's the guy who got me out of Palm Springs by just having me wipe off the DVD disk as I was trying to work the Navi in my new X and head back home.
I swear I have heard it say both. I know for a fact it does say IS possible, and it seems more than once it said IF possible. I still have the 2.05e version. I do know the major road to our gated community is now mapped, but my exact street is not.
I may still get the new rev before long.

ifeldman,

I am "fairly certain" that I have had it say "u-turn if possible". This occurs once in a while because I ignore Hallee's directions sometimes (Hallee is our Nav system).

I do not believe that I have ever heard Hallee tell us that "u-turn is possible". In fact, why would she ever inform us of that?

I just ordered my Nav DVD on 2/24 -- decided to jump in before waiting on feedback. The amazing thing is that it showed up on 2/26 -- yep, 2 days later. This occurred inspite of the fact that they are stating that they are filling backlog orders and new orders will not be shipped until late March!!
hockeyplayer
oh fantastic srpbep...can't wait for your feedback:rolleyes: All you had to do was a little reading of the threads on the update. You'll be happy you took a "chance" and went forward with the update.

Nav Update,

We took our first trip this weekend (just a little over 200 miles RT):

** Install was a snap (just pop out old DVD and pop in new one).

** Nav voice is different (wife likes it better, I am ambivalent).

** Directions seem a better based on limited experience. More direct routes.

** Nav is far LESS PERSISTENT when you take a different route. Either reroutes you immediately or tries "a little". On three, such tests, reroute was immediate, on third, tried to get us to get off freeway and turn around but only ONCE. Old system would have had us get off every off ramp for 10 off ramps before "giving up" and re-routing us.

** A couple "new" old roads are now there.

** Haven't played with restaurants yet.
Rodzir
I got mine on Friday. It is Version 02.11.22 That is the official number. The only difference is more roads and an unverified road feature. It is slower and the lady now sounds like she smokes 1 pack a week

We will not be able to ship your disc this week as you requested.Sales of the new upgrade
disc (2.11b) have been suspended to correct compatibility with previous versions of the
software. Your continued satisfaction is very important to us, and we appreciate your
patience while we resolve this problem.

We anticipate the new upgraded disc will ship around the end of January.

If you wish to CANCEL your order please contact us at 888-549-3798
between 7AM and 11PM Central Standard Time, and select option 1
or e-mail us at acuranavidiscs@alpine-usa.com.

If we do not hear from you we will hold your order and ship the corrected disc overnight,
at our expense, as soon as it arrives.

So, it finally came today - UPS GROUND. Pulled for shipment on 2/23/04, shipped on 2/25/04, and received 3/01/04. So much for "overnight at our expense". Installed it today and it seems to be running as slow as it took to ship it! :headshake

Doesn't sound like it's worth $185 to me. I'll pass. $50? I'd spend the cabbage. For all of the "features" in the 2002 MDX I have (mysterious thunk in the right rear window, wet windows on the inside glass driver's side, tranny hassles, etc etc) you'd think Acura would toss us a bone on this one. I guess not.
