another shot

| If you notice, the passenger compartment appears to be completely in tact so the MDX may be as safe a vehicle as we hope. |

Looks very similar to a Maxda 626 I had that was stolen. The entire front cap was removed, radiator and a/c system. Inside, the entire leather interior including door panels, gone! Airbags, CD Stereo, center console & misc., see ya! The only saving grace was my new inline skate hockey wheels were still in a bag in the trunk. Every time I saw a Green 626 driving by me after that I wondered if half of it was mine???
Interested that the door handles were cut out... doors locked, no power, had to cut the metal to get into the cabin? |

They had to cut out both sides to get into the cabin? |

It looks much more like it was stripped than hit.
As far as the door handles are concerned, they might have been one of the "points of interest" for the thieves.
Its bumper seems to be intact.
Then, again, why would they not steal all 4 wheels? (just the front right one? - That is a doughnut spare, isn't it?) Wheels at this point are probably the most expensive item. With only 20,000 or so cars sold, I do not think the parts would be in such huge demand.
Ron, do you have (can you get) some info on this car? Seems like it's a junk yard or a very busy body shop it's in. |

This is quite a mystery!
My two cents:
There is crumpling of the structural members around the engine bay but the front bumper (backer) does not appear to be damaged. The windshield is gone. The left front wheel is askew about 20%. At first I thought is might be a rollover but there doesn't appear to be damage to the roof rack etc. Then I thought that maybe it rear-ended a semi trailer but the support member above the radiator would have been pushed back more. Then I thought aha, a typical run-in with a 2000 pound moose - no, no, can't be, San Francisco remember. That's it, it was sitting in the parking lot of Cisco Systems when a former dot.com millionare leapt to his death from the 10th floor crushing the front of the MDX from above.
Mystery solved. |

Parts Galore!!!!!:D
What salvage yard is it at?
Phone # with area code :)
Maybe they have great prices on accessories. ;) |

Looks like he might have been attempting to "hot dog" around somebody on the right and didn't make it between the car and a cement divide on the passenger side. Naw...MDX drivers don't Hot Dog around...do they? :) OR...he could have been cut off and run into an object on the right. Or...might have slid under something higher...like a truck which would explain the minor bumper damage and absence of the hood.
Impacted front passenger side and broke tire (recovery team probably put the spare on to keep it upright for ins. inspection or towing)
Scrapes on driver side door
Cargo cover dislodged on impact and may have taken out rear side window.
Looks like a smash and twist kind of wreck.
Wondering where the hood and fenders are? Hope the hood didn't travel through the windshield!

Ok, Dr. Watson, and what do you make of this... :)
DMor, a great leap of fantasy! There has definitely been some "twisting", otherwise how would you explain a bumper that went through the windshield at 90 degrees!!! :) I am sure that took care of any cracks the car might have had in its windshield. Then, again, if Acura would have used a higher quality glass for it, nothing like this would have happened. :) Also, I wonder if this fixed the thud???
DMor, do you see now how bad Mahogany color looks??? :)
No matter what kind of accident this car was in, it has been partially stripped. Criminally, or in preparation for repairs, who knows? There are those weird scratch marks on both sides!!! Both mirrors are missing. So is the antenna (did you notice?) Yet the roof rack and the sunroof wisor are seemingly intact.
Where are the fenders, the hood, the radiator, the fan? Why would the rescue team cut out all 4 door handles???
It is not the best view, of course, but at least side air bags did not deploy.
I still think that the wheels are the most valuable part in that pile right now. I just hope Ron could provide some extra info.
Seems like base model to me - not the best angle to see the wheels. Does anyone know if it had Navi??? :)
I certainly agree with Remery - if that car was in an accident, the passenger compartment seems intact! (except, of course that bumper going through front passenger's head. just kidding) |

| Actually, I believe this is the result of IIHS's 40MPH frontal offset crash test. It's either that or Rail's mirrors started leaking again. :D |

This car is at a insurance salvage yard which will auction it off. Both airbags deployed. When cars wreck, they get towed into a body shop where they take them apart to see what is damage and how much it will cost. Insurance probably figured it was cheaper to total it. But I am sure someone is going to fix it and put it back on the road..
It is a touring w/ Navi.. I will let you guys know how much it sells for, then maybe I can get more info if the buyer decides to part it out..

There's no way this is the result of a 40mph offset test.
I suspect it may be low speed testing by the insurance company or the remains of a low speed crash which were then "tested" by the insurance company because:
1) the locks look cut out; if stripped, there wouldn't be such huge holes
2) what happened to all the glass? There is not enough damage to trash all the windows.
Hmm..the crash testing theory doesn't makes sense. It looks like it something that was above the bumper.
Need more pictures. Can we get pictures from the other quarter angles and also the inside?
