Well, I'm not an "old timer", but there is probably a few of us that would count if we add the miles / time for both MDX's! Had about 23,000 on the '02, only got 5,200 on the '03, but we got to "see" things from a different perspective of multi-years!

Wait! That would be a great tread...."how many MDX's have you owned?" :2:
AikiMDX
Registered in July 2002 but read the site for many months before that. Bought an 03 in January of 03 and now have 22,000 miles on it (my commute went from 4 miles to 40 a few months ago!). I would guess I am a midtimer. While my visits here are down from my 6 times a day, I do continue to check in from time to time.

Thanks. I did manage to get in on the group buy for AV Electronics (that was a close call!). Now I just need to get it installed! I have always enjoyed the sense of community here and the high percentage of considerate and decent people (minimal flaming). I will continue to check in once in a while.

A good weekend to all...

Got my X on november 2000 had it purchased back by Honda of america on March 2003 per lemon law proceedings.
7 airbag warning failures , 7 computer resets, Not a component replaced in 1 year of problems with airbag system.
Transmission coolers were installed improperly. Transmission overheated time and time again on hot weather. Clunk noises fixed after 3 dealer visits. Seatbelt problems. Rear suspension problems shocks replaced. Drove it for 78K miles. A nightmare. Cheeeeep plastic interior doesn't hold up over time and use, looked even cheaper. Friends often made sarcastic coments about cheap luxury.
Tranny about to give up when purchased back. Driving wife's old car, waiting for highlander hibryd.

Well I'm not really an "Old Timer" but if you count "window shopping" on these boards since 10/01 then you could count me in.

Just want to give a shout-out to the Old-Timers (THE WORM) for the weeping mirrors solution and all those that volunteered as "testers" for Tim's accessories early on.

It's from all the ideas/solutions/praises/insight as well as how my previous MDX took care of me that I decided to get another "X" recently. Keep up the good work folks ! :29:
Crem de la SUV
O.K., here I am again. I got busy with other things after the novelty of the new '01 wore off & stopped posting. I figured I'd check back to see what progress had been made on isolating front end noises.

I've pretty much just been driving it without too many problems; it has 70K on the clock now. Repairs include replacing a broken front spring, front driveshafts and a front sway bar link. The front end is still clunky & the tranny acts a little funny from time to time, but it is wearing well overall.

I'm glad I purchased the 100K extended warrantee & plan on abusing it a little before it runs out :D

:1: At the ripe old age of 63, I must truly be an old-timer; definitely an old gear-head! Leased an '01 Touring/Navi in March of '01. Had a rattle under the dash which proved to be a loose "extra" bolt. Dealer and I are still scratching our heads over that one. Had an inner fender spot weld pop loose; re-welded and that fixed it. Absolutely NO other problems in 40k miles as of last July. Loved it so much, turned it in early and got an '04 Touring/Navi, Starlight Silver w/Quartz interior. So far, two new Michelins (replaced by Michelin; very unusual to have a bad one), and chasing a little wind noise around the driver's window. Quieter running, faster, better sound system, better dash lighting, better Navi, etc. Now, if I could only get them to put the A/C button back on the Trip Computer screen, along with the outside temperature indicator! I understand they changed this back in the '05 models. Anyone else have this complaint? I LOVE MY MDX! BEST suv on the market for my money.

Hey Guys,
I too have been a lurker and not a contributor for a while now, mostly cauz for the most part my '03X has been a performer not a whiner. I will share a few recurring mentionables:

__I am on my fourth windshield. Turns out the part of Rt. 80 I commute on shares the road with gravel trucks going to the bay area. I have noted an inordinate amount of vehicles of all types have various degrees of cracked windshields in this area.

__My driver's leather seat is displaying more and more deep folds even with frequent applications of seat leather compound.

__I have a bit in excess of 40,000 on my X and for the third time I am experiencing lackluster acelleration and fuel mileage has dropped off about 2 or 3 mpg. on my commute. The last two times they replaced some sort of engine sensor. This is a disappointing trend. Anyone else have a similar experience? BTW, I usually use Chevron and switch between premium and reg depending on gas pricing. About every quarter yr. I drop in a bottle of Techron to keep things clean.

__My Mich's are wearing well tho there is noticeably more drift with age.

__Last prob is weird - I caught my pant leg bottom on a corner of the molding on the drivers seat bottom egressing the X one day after work. The molding ripped off the front left corner and took with it the entire side piece that retains all the seat controls. The controls are now hanging on by their wiring harness and I must be careful not to allow falling rain or drips to fall an the switches when opening the door until I can get to the dealer to have it repaired.

For the most part all other probs are too minimal to mention after all every vehicle has a few quirks - but the X is such a great all around SUV that it is hard to complain about anything. Still takes off from the line better than most any other SUVs and surprises even some more muscular cars out there. I think considering purchasing my wife a Yukon or Tahoe, but the X still can drive circles around them and I'm keeping the X for performance and economy. We wanted something a little bigger for hauling bigger stuff.

Nice to hear from old familiar names on this forum.
Casique
I'm still here enjoying our 2003 MDX. We had the brake rotors and pads replaced due to warping. Other than that all is well.

2001 MDX - Lemon ... Acura replaced with 02. Had the 02 pretty much trouble free for 18K and then traded it in when I moved to NC as I needed a Pickup for hauling. Just posted a thread today that im now looking at the MDX Pickup = RIDGELINE !!! Drove one last weekend and Loved it.

I do miss my MDX and like I told my wife, if it had a Pickup bed I would have never traded it in. Now the Avalanche's time is ticking. Only problem is im going through the " New vehicle and short supply again "

Was great to read through the thread and catch up ... hope everyone is doing great and look forward to catching up more !!

I'll tell you the story about my beginnings with acuramdx.org and my MDX. I was looking to replace my '95 Chevy Blazer in October 2000 with another SUV for my wife. I did not know anything about the MDX that had just come out. One day, I drove past my local Acura/Mitsubishi dealer to look at a Montero. The salesman told me they had just received the new SUV from Acura that same day. Test drove it and liked it, but they wanted $500 above MSRP, so I walked away. That night I went to the internet to find more info, found acuramdx.org and became a member. Everybody in this site was commenting about how good the 'X was,of how hard was finding the 'X, price gouging, etc. Next day I went back to the dealer and negotiated to $100 above msrp and bought it. I think I drove one of the first 'Xs in Northeast Ohio area. Happy ever since.
EXCALIBUR
I must qualify as an "Old-Timer" by now. Colin Sato, the internet sales manager at Pflueger Acura in Honolulu, Hawaii just sent me a card congratulating me on the 3rd year anniversary of owning my MDX. Where does the time go?:8:

First visit back to the site in over a year and this thread caught my eye. Been driving the X since 12/00 and just turned 55,000, the highest mileage I ever put on a vehicle in that period of time.
(My '93 Legend that I traded on the X had 14,000 miles). Finally quit blending the 91 octane when we reached the $2.00 figure and it runs just like new. Understand there are a lot of tranny problems, but we are scheduled for our 2nd fluid change at next service. My service advisor got me new rotors and pads at 38,000 compliments of ACURA and replaced the Xterrains at 37,000 when NTB matched Costco'S $600 price.
Understand that a smaller ACURA SUV will be available for '06
and will consider it real seriously if it uses regular gas.

I am too lurking around... just not corresponding too much. However, last week left a deposit on 2005 Sage and although sad to see my Gigi go back to stable after a good 4-year run, I hope to keep the good memories and bring in new 'with memory' (seats) :D

I kid you not, this will be my favorite feature although I am the only driver, given the amout of headaches and backaches I had struggling with the seat each time it was moved by car wash people and then finding that one position (until recently one of seat's positioning buttons stopped working - talk about temp memory seats )

Oh, and the navi will be my wife's fave, no doubt, as she has temporarily lost her 'sense of adventure' (well, she is 7-mo pregnant...) wiith me sometimes missing the crucial exit sign and then ending up in 'somewhere' and getting back by old fasioned map and 'guys dont ask for directions, *slap* ok-ok-honey-i-will-ask-at-the-next-gas-station-for-help'

Hey Guys-

Long time....,

Got my 01 MDX on October 5, 2000

Just hit 99,470 miles. Gonna bring it in next week for a shopping list of minor stuff. (100k AcuraCare warranty)

Nothing major as far as repairs go over the last 99k- engine mounts, Struts, master cylinderodds and ends... (I'm pretty picky, so I find stuff for them to fix.)

I've probably put on 10k miles- wifes done most of it... 3rd set of tires- needs new in a month

Just ran a used oil aanlysis on the engine- astonishingly clean, the report was very surprised at the mileage. DIno oil.

Ard

PS New toy for me has my interests posting elsewhere- a 2003 BMW M5..

Am I considered an old timer? I've liked my MDX so far except my transmission problem (slipping). Haven't gone to the dealer yet since I couldn't duplicate it. It seems to occur when temperature is cold. Hasn't acted up this fall/summer.
Liberty
Old timer here. I had the 2001 MDX that suffered the indignities os the weepy mirrors, and shortly after that was corrected (FINALLY!) I replaced it with an '03 which I'm still driving today.

I commute about 110 miles a day and she has 52,000 miles and is still running great. My biggest complaints on this unit continue to be lower (than my '01) gas mileage and continuous problems with the upgrade stereo which hasn't worked right since day 1.

I'm back because a co-worker has been shopping for (and has just purchased) a new MDX.

Missed you guys!

Sorry to hear about the stereo, I hadn't heard that as a problem affecting a lot of folks (unlike the infamous weeping mirrors -- I may be one of the only early 2001 owners who doesn't have 'em).

Well the truth is, I really just MISSED you guys and decided to come and check in after I told my buddy Vince to come here (he's already in love and hasn't even taken delivery yet!!!!) because this was the best place for unadulterated opinion, and also, because I missed SPACE INVADERS!!!!! LOL

Seriously - I lost my job (after 13 plus years with the company) and therefore lost the link to this place, and also, for a short while, the will to interact much. Maybe some of you guys know how that goes... Anyway - for the last year I've been working in Long Beach as product development guru for a tool company. The commute takes between 2.5-3 hours out of every day, and I spend a ton of time in China (ne hao ma?) and .... okay. I have no excuses! But, it is truly a delight to recognize some of the old personalities that commiserated, offered suggestions, and made me laugh.

I plan to stick around - as one of the early old timer chicks on board, I feel some mother hen sort of responsibility to keep you guys in line (I just saw the add to the story line link yesterday - EGADS! :14: )

I have hardly been on this site for over a year now. This past year (#5) has seen it's fair share of MDX problems so we had decided to move on. This past Wednesday night we turned in the keys to our 01 X for a 06 Jeep Commander. I know...gas up the flamethrowers!!:D We actually went there to look at Grand Cherokee Limited. My wife sits on a couple boards with the owner of the dealership and he talked her into driving the Commander. Well she really liked the extreme headroom and she was able to maintain the 3rd row seating even though we hardly ever use it. It had all the goodies she thought she needed so we did it. For me...this thing is so ugly it is cute. We are talking about going to the OBX this fall and driving on the beaches should be a better experience, so I will like that.

Wow, checking in as well. All is well with the 2002 X. But there are so many new options out there, that it's tempting to look.

I have my sights set on the Audi Q7, but the Commander is definitely something different.

I also just saw an article on an SRT version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee (I will never go back to that, owned a 95), but 420HP makes me think twice about putting up with the reliability issues...

Tim...let me know if you come to Ashtabula. I might be able to get you a free slip for a couple days. Talk to me!! How is your CC coming? Last I talked to you you were doing the motor.

Ard...still hanging out here?

Our X had 62k on it. I guess you want to hear about the last year or so.

...egr value. The check engine and vtm came on together. Everyone on the board was saying egr so I called Tim and got one. This past summer when they extended the warranty I sent in the paper work for a rebate and it was denied because I did the work myself. Even though it was only $90 bucks that didn't set well even though they made up for it (see below).

...driver side front spring broke. AH did goodwill the repair. While they were in there they replaced the driver's side strut that was leaking. They good willed that also but at 52k it seemed a little early for a strut to go bad. The spring breaking was just plain scary. As you all know AH did a salt belt safety recall on them. I never called them because I already had the work done. I did give the notice to the Jeep dealer though.

...non-tangible - prior to the egr our gas mileage was nowhere as good as it used to be. Right after the egr replacement it seemed better but it wasn't for long. On the open road we were lucky to get to 18 - 19 and around town it was 13 - 14. First couple of years we got 17 - 18 in town and 22 - 24 on the open road. We used premium (93) right up to the day we traded it. Of course this V8 Jeep won't be any better.

...non-tangible I admit I did worry about the transmission and didn't like the fact I had paid for flushes that weren't due yet.

...coils. This past September the check engine came on followed shortly by the vtm. I figured egr again. So with the warranty extension on the egr we took it in. The call came back that it was throwing a code that 2 of the coils were bad and oh by the way your right front strut is leaking. (62K). I authorized the fix, a week later check engine\vtm back on. We were busy and never took it in. The lights would come and go. They were off the night we traded. I posted here about the coils and nobody responded so maybe the coil thing is rare.

...beginning of December we started to get a clunk in the left front, it was a lot worse sounding than the original thud. I eyeballed it but didn't see anything. Don't know!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Around Christmas we started to talk about getting something else and I will say going with another MDX wasn't really considered mainly because of the distance (50miles) to the nearest dealer and the thought of that wasn't as appealing as it was 5 year ago.

The MDX is still our family car, but the M is the fun car now :D Actually I tried an FX for a year before trading for the M  I do not post here as often as I used to (still lurk frequently though); I helped build up www.infinitifx.org for a year and now I spend time over at www.infiniti-driver.com (an M site).

Hey Guys-

Niles, yes once in a while... doesn't seem to have the same intensity it had before.

Plus, I have a 'fun car' myself... 2003 BMW M5... so of course my attention is not on the X.

BTW, big infiniti fan- long time owner of a Q45 and one of the ancient members at the infiniti owners club over on yahoo... there was a HUGE hole in the infiniti marque from 1993 until a few years ago. I really like the FX45 and was trying to convince the wife... no go, yet..

Rgds-

PS http://www.nicoclub.com/ for nissan and infiniti... truly smart people, especially the online mechanic sections...

Ard...a M5...very nice:29:

Infiniti..never owned one but we are fans. I think it was the second year of X ownership my wife really liked the G35 sedan. We were at the Cleveland auto show and she went back to the display 3 times just to sit in it. When they came out with the X model I figured we would become owners but all of the sudden she changed her mind.

Now we have this Jeep and the cycle starts over. I have been trying to find a "Tim" out there for Mopar stuff.:29: The wife is going to the cell phone store this morning to trade in her 2 month old cell phone for one with blue tooth. Oh, the guy she knows that owns the Jeep dealership...he also owns the cell phone store.:8: This guy is getting too much of my money. :D

I am going to try and stay away from Commander forums this time though. Let what happens happen!!!
Good luck
Niles

Hey everyone- checking back in.

Picked up my 2001 in December 2000. It's got just over 60K on it. No tranny problems (knock on wood) but I put the cooler/ tow package on it early and maybe that has helped. I do have a leak in the passenger area that has not been resolved.

Otherwise on second set of brake pads, second set of tires and just normal service.

Keep on truckin'

Got the motor, but that won't go in till the spring. For now, I've got new seats, having the outdrive re-sealed, etc. She'll be hitting the water in April/May :)

Oh, and if you need Jeep stuff, this I can do, believe it or not. Parts, accessories, you name it (I have a special connection with a local Jeep dealer here ;) )

Wow, lots of new activity on the old-timers thread - hi guys!

Well, my 2001 SS turned over 100,0000 miles this morning - we had a little celebration in the car, tooted the horn, my son took a picture of the OD with his cell phone. Still going strong - no major hassles, managed to stay ding free (I still parking out in the toolies, can't break the habit), and we're still getting 20-23 mpg on trips. I need to replace the rear end caps on my Maniks, which have dropped off, but they kind of look like turbo boosters now.

I'm mostly a lurker on this site now, since I'd said way more than I actually know a couple years ago. I just got a Razr V3c, so I've been hanging out in that forum (cell phone modders - and I thought the MDX group was pretty out there). Nice to see some of you old geezers hanging around, and an active bunch of newbies with those new-fangled 05s and 06s (did they ever put the clock back :))

Other stuff:

The 'other car' is now a '05 Forester XS (need the heated seats) - Ms. Ghost loves it.

After years of being pet free, we've picked up a Labradoodle puppy this spring (the kid remembered we'd promised him a dog when he was 3 - he's 9 now). She's 10 month old and 65 lbs, but such a sweety.

Oh yea - I installed Hoen highs, lows and fogs a couple weeks ago (consulting this site, of course) - like 'em! Can see the deer even farther off now...

OK then, just thought I'd stop by & say hi, glad to see you folks hanging in there.

Cheers,
ghost

Howardforums? Or another forum?

Curious as I am probably going to take the plunge into BT/GSM/etc...

if you ever want to view the cell business from the eyes of the retail providers and tech geeks check out howardforums.com

Hi ard, yea, howardforums, I'm ghost640 over there. Wild place, there's some deep techies there. I've only had the phone 5 days, so I'm not ready to hack the operating system yet.

But I did use the site to learn to use Mobile Phone Tools, which let you make a USB connection to your PC - I've been able to upload my contacts from Outlook and edit MP3 files to use as ringtones. Took a few hours to get it working, but well worth it...

Hey ghost, hey ard, hey Ron :1:

I've had the Black V3 since July; but I guess I'm not a phone techie; what's a V3c or V3i  I guess I got a plain old V3

ghost - congrats on turning 100
MDXLNT
MDXLNT checking in ... traded in the 2001 Granite Green MDX that I took to the Northern California MDX "Winery Tour" (thank you Marne!) back in September of 2002. In June of 2003 (while at the dealer servicing the 2001), I took one look at the new MDXs on the lot and traded in the 2001 for a 2003 Midnight Blue MDX. Unlike the 2001 which had 60K miles upon trade in (1-1/2 years use), my 2003 is sitting at a comfortable 28K (2-1/2 years so far).

Tires are still hanging in there, but I did "take" the chrome wheels and tires from my 2001 and put them on my 2003 before I traded (so my current tires have about 35000 miles on them). The set on the 2001 lasted about 55K miles before I replaced them with the same Michelin Cross-terrains.

The 2003 has been good to me. I've only had the radio (with 6-CD changer) replaced under warranty (had trouble with CDs getting stuck and not playing). I still have plenty of time and miles left on the 7/100 extended warranty. I plan to keep the 2003 for as long as I can. Afterall, I've gotta send the kids to college still!

Cheers.

Hi MSU - good to see you going strong - I see you've added an Infinity to the collection - nice!

The V3c is Verizon's version of the Razr, and comes with their own UI (good points and bad points there), just came out around the holidays.

The V3i is a Razr with I-tunes - a really slick looking phone. I haven't seen any reviews on how the audio is - I know Moto's ROKR took a beating because they capped the number of songs at 100.

I currently have a treo, it is the biggest POS. In fact this week I threw it and made it worse (I hate this thing). Therefore, I am buying a razr v3 ASAP. Then when the v3i comes down in price I will buy one of those and give my v3 to my wife ( :p , I am such an ass)
AcuraMDX2002
I got rid of my MDX in 04, couldn't stand not having it, saw the Honda Ridgeline at the 05 Honda Classic Golf Tournament, bought one the next week. The similarities to the MDX are amazing. I love it!
msu79gt82
Hey stranger, the ranks of Old-Timer owners continue to thin :( Good luck with the new Ridgeline - if I'm not mistaken BellTeck got a Ridgeline recently.
MDteX
I hope Honda keeps the Ridgeline. Unfortunately they are not selling that well. I think it looks cool and has some great features. But I still love my MDX!
