| Anyone have any info regarding what fits a '01 MDX. Looking for mounting depths, sizes etc. for head units and sub woofers in OEM locations. Tried Crutchfield but they are of no help, they haven't even measured the MDX for their "what fits my car" section. (C'mon Crutchfield the model has been around for 5 years!) I know I can always cut and schmooze the stuff in, but rather go about things the right way to start. |

| As far as drop ins you can drop a set of 6.5 in the front and 5 1/4 in the rears(a 6.5 should also work) As for subs well a 10(a very shallow 10)or if you can still find those subs that had the motor magnet in the front instead of the rear of the sub then you would get a little more airspace for a better suited enclosure.(I think they were made by Hollywood Labs and there might have been another one made by another company. For subs though you could go the route I took which was to create a custom fiberglass tub out of the oem cargo hatch and drop in 2-3 JL 10W6 or any other 10 inch subs, you could do 3 or 4 -8 inch subs if you really are concerned about loosing cargo space and if you're not then the options are endless. Keep in mind though that any size of speaker can be put in to any car given that you have a crafty installer and the $$$$ to do it, with those 2 ingredients anything is possible. Just remember usually it is better to follow most installer's mantra. K.I.S.S.(keep it simple stupid) A word of caution as well. Once you're bitten by the audio bug there's no stopping that itch!!!!!!! |

| For the 6.5" inch speakers you would want to look at the Infinity 6002i speakers. I just upgraded my speakers and they sound wonderful. Search the forum for "Infinity 6002i" and you should be able to get a link to buy 2 pairs of under $110. |

| Guys thanks for being helpful and responding to my post. I appreciate any input. Planning on doing the install myself, has anyone one installed any aftermarket head units?? If so what make/model (trying to get idea of depth of DIN mount). |

Here's a link to my pics from Sound Domain. I used a Metra kit for the aftermarket radio. The kit is nice but does not really match the Navi that well(color and texture wise). Which is okey since I have plans to do a custom alloy trim soon. I just installed my Clarion half DIN center channel speaker w/ built in midbass driver. I had to do some cutting and grinding to make it fit and I had to fabricate a bottom piece(spacer)trim out of plywood and trimmed with black vinyl to make it look nice. For the head unit I am using a Panasonic DVD/CD player w/ built in center channel.(I have turned off the built in center channel w/ the installation of the Clarion unit). The Clarion unit is definitely a step up I would prefer to do a Custom set up with a 6.5 speaker and a tweeter but I did not want to cut into the dash to mount it. I hope the link might help you get an idea of what is possible. This one is still a work in progress. I'm looking into doing the front and rear speakers next a 3 way Boston Pro Series in the front (sealed enclosure for the mids)and the 2 way 6.5 set will go on the rear pillars installed in a custom speaker pod(sealed as well). The doors will get a 2 way Pro series as well but will have a dedicated amp so I can turn the speakers on and off via a switch.

| I've searched and read the articles on sub replacement but still can't get a definite answer to what people have actually done about the sub. I would love to know who has actually replaced the sub while still running the factory head unit. Will the standard Bose unit drive a sub? Will an additional amp be needed? I would love to be able to "plug and play" a sub into the existing system. I've done the Infiniti's on the advice of everyone here and it worked great. I'll do the sub as soon as I get some more advice from you smart guys. |

GoCanes,
I replaced the Bose sub with an audiobahn sub. There is a slight (very slight) improvement. Others have said they noticed a marked improvement with the Polk sub. The Bose amp pushes about 35 watts and just isn't enough to push an aftermarket sub IMHO. I finally amped the sub (1x200) and I am very happy with the result. Now of course you could go further and get an enclosure, etc. but that is up to you. Good luck. |

this looks interesting and I would think will fit really well. With some creative sealing and some fiberglass and a mdf mounting plate the oem sub cavity should make these subs sound way better than the stock Bose one when hooked up to a fairly adequate power amp.

Very cool and you are correct filling the cavity, and dynamat for seal will work.
Mine install I just kept cost effective.
Thank you for your post.
Don't forget to use www.subbox.net for the mounting spacer/ring.
Happy installs to all.
Peace.:2: |
