I ordered my MDX in March 2001 expecting to get it in June. This weekend I was told I wouldn't get it until September. I don't entirely understand why it is taking longer - the dealer blames it on Acura's method of allocating cars. Am I getting the run-around? Should I go to a different dealer? Also, I'm wondering if I should wait for 2002. My dealer says the 2002 is being built out of a plant in the U.S. which hasn't started production yet. They are not sure if the 2002 will even be out during 2001. Is this true? I am a little concerned with the 2002 being built in a brand new plant in the U.S. - they may need some time to work out the bugs. Please help.
It is hard for me to buy a car at MSRP and even harder to deal with the wait etc. Thanks in advance for your help!

I ordered my base GG/NAV 01/29/01 from Radley Acura in Arlington, VA. I was told to expect May or early June at the latest for delivery. My order finally went in 4/27/01 (three months later; they had said it would go in with the March orders) and that the new expected date would be June or the first week in July at the latest. The reason for this (they said) was that they didn't get as many vehicles delivered as they expected. The salesman said it usually takes 3 weeks to get a build date after the order goes in and then up to 3 weeks for delivery, so if what he says is true my MDX should arrive in mid-June. However, I half expect them to come up with another delay excuse -- we'll see. If your order was put in in March I guess it's entirely possible that you won't get your MDX 'till September as your dealer might have been overly optimistic with the date he gave you. However, it does seem to me strange, that a delay of 2 or 3 additional months from your original estimated delivery date should be warranted. It seems we're all victims of "the list" and are at the dealer's mercy. We can either believe or disbelieve what they tell us. We'll never really know the truth until we finally get delivery (if that ever really happens). I did check around in other states in Dixie through the internet and found that several dealers had MDX's on their lots for sale at MSRP. You might want to check out your neighboring states by looking up Acura dealers on their website http://www.acura.com. Some dealers list the vehicles on their lot. Since my MDX, from what my salesman says, seems to be on target for delivery I decided to wait and see what happens before trying any other method of purchasing. Anyway that's MY story. I've found other people in this forum have been waiting even longer than I have (and some that have waited a lot less), and it's helped me to be more patient. I don't understand the Acura manufacturing and distribution system, but it sure leaves something to be desired. I bought my '94 Integra off the lot and there were many colors and options to choose from, so I didn't have to go through this hassle. I sure hope it's worth it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
