Any thoughts, advice, experience on replacing the left side seatbelt in the 2nd row?
One of the kids jumped out and closed the door leaving the seatbelt hanging out. I didn't realize it and drove off - it rubbed against the rear wheel and chewed halfway through the belt.
I'm mechanically competent and used to working on cars - but it looks like getting the panels off to get at the reel will be a pain. Any advice or experience?
thanks. |

| Yup Tim is the man. Actually it is relatively easy. Just a bear to break the nuts at first. Basically remove the plastic cover for the height adjustment. Then remove the top portion, plastic pops off, be carefull you dont break the connector, or you will have to reorder them from Tim. Then lower plastic cover. Then the nuts for upper and lower are exposed remove them and replace, belt . I'd get the instructions and parts from Tim so you can properly torque the nuts. Good Luck. |

I finally found some time and got this done.
The belt comes in a complete assembly of the reel, belt, upper attachment, tongue, and lower attachment. It had to be special ordered through the local dealer, took about a week to get it. About $90 as I recall. It came with a photocopied set of instructions that covered replacement of all setbelts in the car.
The whole process was pretty simple, it took me about an hour to get everything apart and another 1/2 hour to get it back together. Now that I know the process it could be a lot faster but I'm going to make sure it doesn't happen again.
The process was:
1) remove 3rd row seat (just on the side I needed to replace the belt on.) This was necessary in order to get the interior side panel out. Removed 4 14mm bolts.
2) remove the trim at the back of the storage compartment in the rear cargo area. Remove two plastic retainer plugs.
3) remove the D pillar trim - remove 1 14 mm bolt for the 3rd row seatbelt and unsnap the trim.
4) remove the side panel. The only tricky thing here was that the instructions were not very clear about the fact that the fold down cargo attachment points are the key to securing the side panel. To remove them, pry up the plastic cover to expose a 10mm head screw and unscrew. Then there is one phillips head screw and some snap clips.
5) once all that was out removing the whole assembly was 3 14mm bolts - one each on the reel, upper attachment, and lower. The lower one was a pain as it is hard to access without taking out the 2nd row seat, but a really long extension on the socket wrench took care of that.
6) put it all back together reversing the above. |
