Hi All,

I was testing the Nav. by asking it to give directions to the places I always go. But all the time it gave me round about directions. It seemed to me that it had a problem recognizing left turns. For eg. going north on Rt.1, my friend's place comes on the left (I need to take a Jughandle turn) but it directs me to go ahead to some other highway ( actually Rt 9) and then somehow gets me back on rt 1 but going south! Then shows the right turn.

I observed similar miscalulation in almost all the cases. In fact, we went to Atlantic City and it never showed the GSP to AC Expr. route.
I tried to use different options (Direct Route, Easy Route etc) but it never really showed the best way.

Did anybody observe this behavior? Is there any setting or something?

thanks,
Han.

How much money did you lose? If it was a lot, maybe your Navi is smarter than you think and was simply trying to save you money.:D:D

Hi Han, Yes. Sometimes she suggests a different route than I would have planned, but for the most part she has shown me new and better routes than I had taken before. There is one area in our town where she insists that I take a three block loop and end up right back on the street I started on - but down one block further; that one just makes us laugh. If I don't like the way she suggests, I usually just head in the direction I think looks better and she eventually recalculates to the route I think is better. That wouldn't work too well in a really unfamiliar area, although I always keep my eye on the on-screen map too. It is very helpful.

Yesterday she helped me to find a little-known way to the back of the San Diego Convention Center where I found metered parking and avoided a lot of traffic at the end of the convention. As someone else said, she is a little dyslexic at times - map shows turn left and she says, "right turn ahead". In that case, follow the map. She figures it out before you make the final turn.

P.S. - Mine is named "Missy", because I have (had) a habit of missing turns - no more!
Many times the route it suggests seems to be major road. If I were to do it I would take a secondary road at times and get a better route. I have found that you let it plan one out, then review the segments online. If you don't like it then suggest that it avoid a certain road and recalculate. In this manner I have been amazed out how well it responded and completly changed the routing based on just one change.

BTW: I am not always sure it was wrong though.

I did have one case where it wanted me to go south west and then north east 25 miles each way when there was a good secondary road that cut across 12 miles, saving 38 miles. I told it to avoid the first 25 mile leg and it found the 12 mile secondary route easily.
