Steering wheel audio controls malfunction... - Click HERE for Original Thread

Sometimes I get the audio controls on the steering wheel to do weird things... I turn the car off and turn it back on and it goes away.. This has only happened to me twice where the volume button switches channels or sources.. and the down volume control turns the volume up! Manual controls still work...but this is kinda irritating.

And i also got the emmisions may fail thing..need to get it fixed by a dealer and get a letter of certification... stoopid recall, I don't have time to deal with that!

I have the same problem...had it "fixed" about 6 months ago under a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 03-015. And I said "fixed" because whatever they did, did NOT work...they're still malfunctioning...gotta take it in again...

I had something similar happen a few months ago. Was listening to a CD in the changer and pressed channel but it was acting like I was pressing mode. At first I thought it was just me but I made absolutely sure. Like you, when I turned the MDX off and started it again the problem went away. My wife is the primary driver so I'm not sure if it has happened other times but she has never mentioned it.

I remember reading another thread awhile back describing the same sort of issue.

Same for me.... I had the TSB performed and it was ok for about two months and now I am having problems again. It appears to be worse when it is wet out - I am wondering if it is a bad connection (like as described in the TSB) that gets worse when it is damp out. When I am having problems, the down volume raises the volume and the up volume changes the channel. I need to take it in for this again and the rear wiper they haven't been able to fix, and the front wiper they haven't been able to fix, etc.......

Car is going into Norwalk Acura in CT. I explained the problems to the dealer and he was very receptive and said that those are common problems and they know how to fix them. Soo...next Tuesday I'll take it in and we'll see what happens. Wish me luck!

Supposedly Norwalk of acura had fixed this problem for me...

but today it happened again! :( Guess, they'll be getting another call from me.

They performed the TSB on mine about 6 months ago and it worked fine for about two months. I took it back in on Monday and they still have it, they are replacing the steering column. I am scheduled to pick it up this afternoon - sure hope this takes care of the problem.

I had this happen to me when it was raining out. I took it into the dealer and they said that it had to be reprogramed. At the same time this happened my drive side window auto down function would not work. It's been ok ever since. Fingers crossed.

As I stated in my post above, the "fix" that was attempted a while ago did not work. I had my X in for routine service today, and asked that they attempt to fix it again. When my service advisor called to let me know my X was ready, he told me that the reason the first "fix" didn't work was because the original "dimple" (this is what TSB 03-015 states to do) wasn't big enough. So this time they just made the "dimple" bigger. I'll keep you posted as to whether or not it's actually fixed this time.

So, word to the wise: if your steering wheel audio controls are malfunctioning (and assuming the fix works for me this time), when you take it in, tell your service advisor to make sure they make the "dimple" big enough, or it won't do any good!

After my first "dimple" didn't work, they replaced the steering column. That appears to have done the trick, but it has only been a month since it was replaced.

Ok. My controls acted up again. I am certain the service guys at my local acura does not know what's really wrong with it. I'll keep checking back here to see if any you have found a fix. Thanks!

knick33:

Next time you take your X in to be serviced, tell them to fix the audio controls as per TSB 03-015. But, make sure you tell them to make the dimple big enough, otherwise it won't do any good.
