Just a greeting to all you Fennoscandians (and Fennoscandian wanna-bes) out there celebrating St. Urho's Day.

March 16 memorializes the day when St. Urho uttered the immortal words ""Heinäsirkka, heinäsirkka, mene täältä hiiteen" (roughly translated: "Grasshopper, grasshopper, go to Hell!") and drove the grasshoppers out of Finland to save the grape harvest (it was a lot warmer back then...)

So put on some purple, simmer up a pot of mojakka, and raise a toast to one of our most famous Finns.

P.S. If you're ever wandering around Helsinki, be sure to stop in St. Urho's Pub - nothing like real Guinness...:2party:

Okay Happy Urho's day to you :)

Here's a place you can pickup some tunes for those evening Urho's day festivities

Heningarna - sort of pre-Ice Age techno...

Tough call - start a new St. Urho's thread or bump the old one. In the interest of keeping the site tidy, I'll do the bump.

Happy St. Urho's Day, all!

It's a great week all around - the 14th, of course, was Pi day (3.14; the kids all had pies in math class), and then yesterday was the Ides of March, which I couldn't think of anything to do for, but it has potential. A mug of mead might have been appropriate.

Yes, Cheers! :7:

As a former resident of the bustling town of Haukilahti, I will gladly share in your celebration!!

Sadly, I've accidently mixed my purple beer with my green beer, but in an odd twist of fate, I may have discovered the recipe for Guinness :2:

Well, my 125K X and I don't visit too much anymore, but I can't pass up an opportunity to once again wish a Happy St. Urho's Day!

My how time flies...
Cheers!

But are we having fun? Hello oldtimer.

Hi MSU, glad to see you're still hanging in there!

Yes, I've been having great fun - my latest obsession, which fits nicely with having the X is geocaching - using a GPS to find containers of stuff people hide out in the middle of nowhere. Yesterday I had the X up on some of the taconite haul roads on Minnesota's Iron Range (actually had the good sense to turn around on that one, it's spring melt here and the roads are a mess, easy place to get in trouble...)

Anyway, I'm up to about 130 caches found, so I'm more than a newbie, but nowhere near the folks with hundred to thousands of finds. It's a great hobby, and worldwide - type in your zip code at www.geocaching.com and you'll probably find a couple dozen within a few miles of your house. It's great fun, and lets you use millions of dollars in satellite techology to find trinkets.

So that and wrapping up the curling and snowboard seasons here, life is good!

Keep X'ing,
Ghost
