Exactly how worried should I be??? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey all. I just paid $2000 deposit on a base MDX yesterday, after searching for this vehicle. Not knowing anything of these delivery problems, and dealer nightmares until reading these posts here (Call me naiive). Well, anyway, it says on the fax that I received from the ACURA dealer: "Delivery could possibly be early June". Am I right in thinking this means June 2002??? How worried should I be??? Cheers, narvik.
I would definately say that they mean 2001. I can't possibly see how the wait could be over a year.

Thanks for the fast reply. Well, it was actually my feable attempt at humor, after reading all these horror stories of bad dealers and delivery nightmares. Rather frightning to me is that my attempt at humor was not detected, and that it was EVEN CONSIDERED to be meant 'for real'!!! But seriously, I guess I'm in line for long wait? And that ACURA dealers tend to lie to customers as a rule?? A real shame 'cause that MDX shure looks like a winner to me!
I'd try to get some more details from your dealer.

How many folks on the list? How many vehicles will they get a month? For each of the last 4 months, how many vehicles did they receive? Stuff like that. Then just divide. If you simply ask for a date, who knows.

Also keep in mind that it isn't that simple. Color and options will impact. I assume yours is a base/non-navi. Ask how many base/non-navis they get. How many folks are ahead of you for that specfic color and model.

I also assume your deposit is fully refundable for any reason.

In which case, you can continue to shop around.

I wouldn't worry too much. For every problem reported there are probably hundreds of trouble-free deliveries. Kind of like airplane crashes. My story is a happy one so far. I put a $500 deposit in March for a target September delivery. Yes all 2001. Then the dealer called a few weeks ago to say they were getting an extra allocation and I could have the vehicle this month. I had ordered Silver Premium w/Nav and the car coming was Granite Premium w/Nav. That was the only compromise. I wanted the dealer to hold the car an extra couple of weeks while I try to sell my car so they asked me to put an extra $1,000 down. I'm buying the car at sticker, no forced accessories, 10% discount on accessories I want and 7.35% financing through Honda. So far so good.
Hi Narvik - I put down deposits at two dealers in late February or early March and got my car on April 13. I called the other dealer to cancel the order without any explanation and was given a credit to my visa that day - no questions asked. There are lots of good dealers out there. I would call the dealer and make sure the deposit is refundable - just so you can stop worrying about it. Good luck.
Hey super stuff. Thanks for all the good replies. You make me all breath a little easier. And yes the deposit IS refundable as stated on the quote. The company I work for will be leasing the vehicle and I'm basically at my max allowable monthly payment. The good thing is I do get 20k miles a year. Anyway, I'll let you all know how it turns out. So, hopefully I will post again sooner rather than later!!!
