Am I eligible for a loner car when I bring my MDX for the recall repair?
When I called my local dealer in Brooklyn, they said I have to pay for the loaner, because it's not a major repair. Is it true what they saying?
Thanks.

PAY for a loaner? While I don't think they are REQUIRED to give you a loaner, I think it's a nice courtesy, if it's available. And since it's THEIR recall, I would think they would want to go out of their way for you.

Talk to the GM, let him know you're not happy with that answer and you'd like to hear his take on it. Otherwise, let him know you'll need to find a new dealership for future purchases.

More than 2hrs work typically justifies a loaner, from my experience. You may not always get a new model either. But better than paying for a rental if you are stuck.

Some dealers are more generous than others, and some simply have more cars available to loan.

As far as the warranty goes, I don't think Acura is obligated to reimburse rentals or provide transportation unless your car is kept overnight for warranty work. Dealers are typically more generous than that, especially if you are a regular customer, and for regular maintenance not just warranty repairs.

I get a loaner for any repair they can't do on the spot while I wait. Waiting time at most 15-25 minutes, otherwise always get a loaner from the dealer and if the dealer runs out of cars they use the local rent-a-car agency and get one for me.

Damn go somewhere else. I get a loaner any time I want, hell even for oilchanges. Last time I ask If I could get a TSX because we were interested in buying one, they gave me one no problems. But follow the advice and tell the MGR you dislike their practice and are leaving because of it.

If you make an appointment in advance (sounds redundant..) make you sure you let the service advisor know you will need a loaner.

Pauls MDX,

Where do you take your MDX to?
Did you buy it there?

The problem with me is that I bought a 2001 MDX last year...the previous owner bought it in Jersey...and brought it to new York. So it is unreasonable to go to Jersey.

Anyways, I had a recall done at Rallye just yesterday and they said no loaner b/c I did not buy my MDX there. I took it there anyways since I also needed to have my TL worked on.

But that really bites...I can't be going to Jersey just to get a loaner.

I think Acura dealers in NY are a bunch of snakes.

So if you can tell me where you got such good service I'd appreciate that!

My daughter is taking ours to a dealer in Toledo tomorrow for the recall, rear air, and 45K service. When I made the appointment last week they said she would get a loaner. We did not buy the MDX from them, we purchased it over in PA. It was just easier for us give up the MDX for 2-3 weeks and let her take care of it while she’s in Toledo getting ready to start school.

Good luck

Go to another dealer! Most of the dealers I visited provided free loaner on a first come first serve basis so I usually go early in the morning cause they are hot!

I purchased from Acura of Valley Stream and always was able to get a loaner car, even if they had none available they would used a local car rental and get me a vehicle. I recently moved to Suffolk and use Acura of Smithtown and they always have a loaner available or also would use a local car rental to get me a vehicle. They do prefer to set an appointment ahead of time for a loaner, but if an emergency happens they will always get a loaner for me(recently had got a 2004 TL and was very impressed with the power). I would call Acura Service Headquarters and tell them you were told that if you didn't buy a vehicle from that dealer, they said you can't get a loaner. That is total BS. These are independant owned dealers and some can be a pain in the neck. I saw a huge difference in customer service between the two I deal with now.

You are lucky.
I am located in Queens and the closest to me (and convenient work-wise) would be Paragon, Rallye, Manhattan.

I tried Rallye and Manhattan...actually went in for service. No loaner car.

Paragon, I avoid like the plague.
Valley Stream might be too far...Smithtown definitely too far!

It's like trying to find a good primary care doctor...
