| Sorry to burst any bubbles but this does not appear to be an illegal transaction. I recently attended a Microsoft new product session and they gave me one of these for attending. There's no legal reason that I couldn't have sold it later. I suspect this guy merely decided to sell his for what he could get. It would be the same as selling any other giveaway you receive at a big exhibition. |

| The problem isn't the auction itself, but the fact that he published the activation key! I'm sure someone has used it already by now. Very funny! |

| I feel bad for the winner who paid 142 dollars. |

OK. So the activation keys are not unique for each CD?

Yes, there could be a problem if the one printed on Ebay is in use.
Unless there is a software to verify that IS the CD that is installed.
Then all bets are off. |

No, the cd's are not unique. If they were, there would be no reason for the activation key. |

| Key are not unique to the CD so anyone who has d/l the SW now has the key to activate it. BTW it looks like a school or teacher version of it, he really isnt supposed to sell it. |

Yes, I recognize the black band across the top. I got a nice corporate copy myself before I retired, at a big discount. No copies, and no selling allowed.
I think it will just be a matter of time before someone from MS will see it.....ebay gets lots of visibility.
Fortunately, some very unsavory dealings have been avoided. |

In the past different production runs would accept only certain ranges of keys so you couldn't always use ANY activation key for ANY disk set even though it appeared to be the same software. |
